Goofy variety shows are not the stock in trade of most authors, especially those who write emotionally wrenching novels about teenagers dying of cancer, but John Green inhabits a multiplatform world with few boundaries. So when he took the stage at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday night along with his brother, Hank, to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the release of John’s critically acclaimed book “The Fault in Our Stars,” all of his diverse interests were on display. The two brothers performed their classic routines: songs about Harry Potter and quarks, readings from Mr. Green’s books, and a segment answering mostly weird questions from their audience until a timer ran out, and Hank was painfully electronically zapped. The show had the polish of a really good high school talent night , but the audience members — many wearing red T-shirts with John’s face and the word “pizza” (his favorite food) — lapped up every minute. They clapped along to a song about high school performed by … [Read more...] about A Novelist and His Brother Sell Out Carnegie Hall

Floating Metallic Orbs Are Everywhere — and 4 Other UFO Revelations From NASA
Photo: NASA The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is finally getting in on the trend of government investigations into unidentified foreign objects. After stating for years that UFO inquiries were below them — both in terms of altitude and reputation — NASA held its first-ever hearing this week on the weird objects that are flying around above us apparently all the time . While Kirkpatrick said that this particular object “demonstrated no enigmatic technical capabilities,” he did note that these things are everywhere. “We see these all over the world and we … [Read more...] about Floating Metallic Orbs Are Everywhere — and 4 Other UFO Revelations From NASA

Seven Standouts From the New York Design Festival
NYCxDesign, a design festival held each May in New York City, wrapped up its 11th edition last week with a strong array of group shows across boroughs — in Soho showrooms, artist studios and backyards in Brooklyn, vacant office spaces in Chinatown and galleries in between. Though officially billed as a weeklong festival beginning May 19 and anchored by the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and WantedDesign at the Javits Center, the event circuit seemed to begin in earnest a week before, with a packed roster of adjacent art and design fairs in town — including The European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF), Frieze New York and the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA).
