A winter storm warning remains in effect for most of central and northern Pennsylvania as a winter storm makes its approach.The warning is in effect from 8 a.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Counties in central Pennsylvania in the warning area include Perry, Dauphin, Lebanon and Cumberland.“Heavy snow and sleet will move in from the south during the morning, then turn to a mixed bag of precipitation this afternoon,” according to the National Weather Service. “The heaviest period of precipitation will be during the late morning through late afternoon hours. The precipitation may turn to freezing rain for a few hours this evening, then fall as mainly light to moderate rain during the bulk of the night.”The weather agency predicts total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Syracuse, N.Y. -- A winter storm warning has been issued for much of Upstate New York today and Friday as a coastal storm is expected to bring heavy, wet snow. The heaviest snow is expected at higher elevations: 10 inches could fall on Tug Hill and in the Adirondacks and hills of the Southern Tier. Syracuse and Binghamton could get 8 inches as the heaviest band of snow tracks from south to north in the midsection of Upstate. Forecasters are concerned about potential power outages as wet snow and freezing rain weigh down tree branches, many of which still have leaves that will increase the surface area for precipitation to stick to. "Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are expected," said the warning, from the National Weather Services. "The heaviest snow will be late tonight and Wednesday morning."
