Family members of the man shot by San Francisco police in the Mission District over the weekend said Tuesday that his name is Jamaica, he’s 26 from Sacramento, and he recently became clean and sober after experiencing homelessness and addiction. The story about his plight with homelessness and addiction was featured in a YouTube video titled, “Jamaica’s Story” in which he recounts growing up homeless with his mother and siblings. The video was posted in October by CityTeam, a nondenominational nonprofit organization with offices in the Bay Area that serves people experiencing homelessness, poverty and addiction. Hot Lunch soon became a fixture in S.F. clubs with their fiery live performances and expanded their audience with the eventual release of the group’s self-titled debut … [Read more...] about CBS SF Talks To Psychedelic Punk/Metal Outfit Hot Lunch

No one protests him now, and the man behind the flyers has long ceased to rabble-rouse. In today's rendition of the play, new actors have taken on the roles of protester and protested - but tech remains the villain. Those who stormed dot-com offices in 2000 and blocked Google buses in 2014 both view real estate and city policy as the real drivers of the housing … [Read more...] about How tech became the enemy – then and now
