Opinion: My brother is serving 20 years in a Saudi prison. Biden should ask MBS for his release

July 1, 2022 by edition.cnn.com Leave a Comment

Areej al-Sadhan is a Saudi-American human rights activist, American citizen and sister to Red Crescent humanitarian worker Abdulrahman al-Sadhan. The views expressed in this commentary are her own. View more opinion on CNN. (CNN) My brother Abdulrahman and I used to love to explore the Bay Area -- hiking, cycling and, on occasion, walking across the Golden Gate Bridge together. Regardless of the activity, I knew I could count on my brother to make me laugh and vice versa. As I look back on those adventures now, I wonder when I will hear my brother's laughter again. Areej al-Sadhan I have not seen or spoken to my brother in more than four years. Several weeks ago, he spent his 39th birthday behind bars in Saudi Arabia. It was the fifth birthday that my family and I have spent separated from him -- with little to no information about his health or wellbeing. This year, my brother's ongoing detention coincides with increased buzz … [Read more...] about Opinion: My brother is serving 20 years in a Saudi prison. Biden should ask MBS for his release

Biden’s ICE Chief Nominee Sought Release of 1.5K Inmates this Year

May 8, 2021 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, Harris County, Texas, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, sought the release of more than 1,500 inmates this year, including illegal aliens and those charged with violent crimes. Last month, Biden nominated Gonzalez to become ICE director, the agency that has been gutted by the administration’s “sanctuary country” orders that prevent agents from arresting and deporting illegal aliens who are not recently-convicted aggravated felons, terrorists, or known gang members. A report by the Washington Free Beacon reveals that Gonzalez, in January, sought the release of more than 1,500 inmates in the Harris County Jail — more than 74 percent of which were either charged with violent crimes, were illegal aliens with ICE detainers, or had extradition orders on them. Gonzalez’s prison release of the inmates request was so extreme that the county’s liberal District Attorney, Kim Ogg (D), refused to grant the … [Read more...] about Biden’s ICE Chief Nominee Sought Release of 1.5K Inmates this Year

Ex-Minneapolis police officers convicted in George Floyd’s death should all go to prison, feds say

June 30, 2022 by www.nbcnews.com Leave a Comment

MINNEAPOLIS — Federal prosecutors asked a judge Wednesday to sentence one of the four former Minneapolis police officers convicted of civil rights violations in George Floyd’s killing to as many as 6 1/2 years in prison but to impose significantly stiffer yet unspecified sentences on two others. They urged U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson to follow the nonbinding federal sentencing guidelines for former Officer Thomas Lane and impose a penalty between 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 years on prison. Prosecutors also said former Officer J. Alexander Kueng deserves a “substantially higher” sentence than Lane’s, but less than the 20 to 25 years Derek Chauvin is expected to get. And they said they’ll seek a ”comparable” sentence to Kueng’s for former Officer Tou Thao. Former officers found guilty on federal charges in George Floyd’s killing Feb. 25, 2022 00:28 Both Lane and Kueng helped restrain Floyd on the night in May 2020 when Chauvin, who … [Read more...] about Ex-Minneapolis police officers convicted in George Floyd’s death should all go to prison, feds say
