Kamala Harris was distraught as she stood before an audience one morning in July 2016. In the previous three days, violence involving police had rattled the nation.Officers had shot and killed one black man in Baton Rouge, La., and another in his car outside Minneapolis as his horrified girlfriend and her toddler watched. At a protest against those shootings, a sniper had killed five Dallas police officers.“I have to tell you, my heart is breaking,” Harris said at a meeting on racial bias in policing. Her voice wavered.“As a prosecutor, my heart is breaking. As the top law enforcement officer in this state. And as a black woman.” Advertisement Harris, then California attorney general, paid tribute to officers whose families pray they stay out of danger. She also said she’d never known a black man who wasn’t racially profiled or unfairly stopped. It was an unusually frank acknowledgment of the forces pulling her in opposite directions in the two years … [Read more...] about Black men killed by police – what did Kamala Harris do about it?

You Can’t Blame Tom Brady And Other Leftover Patriots Thoughts
FOXBORO (CBS) — If you came away from that game pointing the finger at the quarterback, you need to re-evaluate how you watch the game. I mean it. Tom Brady is not the problem. That is not to say that 100 percent of Brady’s reads or passes were perfect. Nobody’s ever perfect, and even Brady’s never been perfect. As is always the case with any athlete in any competition, there are a handful of plays Brady would want back from Sunday. That was a day, though, which Brady spent running for his life, doing his best to duck, dodge and weave the relentless Chiefs pass rush that treated the interior of the offensive line — and third-string center James Ferentz — like mere speed bumps en route to forcing Brady off his spot. That’s been the norm for Brady lately. He spent the majority of the Cowboys doing his best Neo impression in the pocket, trying desperately to buy enough time for someone — anyone — to get open. He had some time to … [Read more...] about You Can’t Blame Tom Brady And Other Leftover Patriots Thoughts
Patriots Rally Around Tom Brady, As QB Fights Back After Report Of Unrest With Team
BOSTON (CBS) — Before Tom Brady even left his home for Gillette Stadium on Sunday, the report was out there on ESPN: The veteran quarterback was getting sick and tired of the way the Patriots were doing business, and the end of his time in New England was possibly nearing. According to the ESPN report, Brady’s confidence — in the team, in himself — was wavering. Meanwhile, a CBS report discussed the possibility of Brady being traded from the Patriots. It took Brady all of five minutes on Sunday night to put the story to bed. Brady came out roaring, completing a 20-yard pass on the first play from scrimmage. He showed he was willing to do it all by breaking out for a rare scramble, picking up six yards in the process. Later in the drive, he ran quarterback sneaks on consecutive plays, the first to convert a fourth-and-1, and he was visibly fired up from the moment he took the field. He handed to Stevan Ridley to cap off a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to take … [Read more...] about Patriots Rally Around Tom Brady, As QB Fights Back After Report Of Unrest With Team
China’s library officials are burning books that diverge from Communist Party ideology
BEIJING - Library officials in northwest China recently hoped to demonstrate their ideological fervor and loyalty to the Communist Party by purging politically incorrect books and religious materials in emphatic fashion: they burned them. Then they uploaded a report - and a photo - to showcase their work. The book-burning incident, with all its dark historical precedents from this country and Nazi-era Germany, has heightened alarm at a time when Chinese intellectuals see their society tipping further into authoritarianism. The incident gained widespread attention on Sunday after Chinese social media users noticed a report on the Library Society of China's website from a library in Zhenyuan County, which declared it had removed "illegal publications, religious publications and deviant papers and books, picture books and photographs" in an effort to "fully exert the library's role in broadcasting mainstream ideology." The library's announcement said the event was attended by education … [Read more...] about China’s library officials are burning books that diverge from Communist Party ideology
Fusion GPS Chief Saw Russian Lawyer Before and After Her Trump Tower Meeting
Glenn Simpson, co-founder of Fusion GPS, admitted in his recently published book he met two times on the same day with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, who led the infamous Trump Tower meeting.Simpson said he met Veselnitskaya those two times the same day as the June 9, 2016 Trump Tower meeting, seeing her in New York before and in D.C. after Veselnitskaya’s Manhattan confab with the top brass of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Simpson also admitted that present at a dinner he had with Veselnitskaya the same day as the Trump Tower meeting was Russian-born Washington lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin, who also attended the Trump Tower meeting. Simpson claimed that as “incredible as it would later seem to Republican investigators,” neither Veselnitskaya nor Akhmetshin “ever mentioned to Simpson that they had sandwiched an encounter with the brains trust of the Trump campaign between that New York court date and their D.C. dinner.” Fusion GPS was … [Read more...] about Fusion GPS Chief Saw Russian Lawyer Before and After Her Trump Tower Meeting
