Rapper Azealia Banks Praises Ron DeSantis: I Feel ‘Way Safer’ in Florida than in Los Angeles

January 26, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Rapper Azealia Banks, most famous for her hit song “212,” said she feels “way safer” living in Republican-led Florida than she does in Los Angeles. Banks made her woke-crushing comments in an interview with The Guardian where she hailed her newfound Miami as a place where people “mind their fuckin’ business.” Banks also felt that the media has unfairly maligned Florida, saying that she feels “way safer” in the Sunshine State than in Los Angeles. She also believes that Gov. Ron DeSantis has a practical way of governing. “He’s focused on the basic shit,” she said. “There are elderly people in our country without walkers, who don’t have the money to get a septic tooth pulled. If we’re talking about divvying up healthcare funds, those situations should take precedence to facial feminization surgeries and stuff like that. I mean, I get it – but that’s a cosmetic surgery. Like, does your penis work? Can you pee? You’re not as in trouble as the older woman who can’t afford her … [Read more...] about Rapper Azealia Banks Praises Ron DeSantis: I Feel ‘Way Safer’ in Florida than in Los Angeles

Trump impeachment star Adam Schiff announces U.S. Senate run

January 26, 2023 by www.sfchronicle.com Leave a Comment

Rep. Adam Schiff, who played a starring role in the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, confirmed Thursday he will seek the California Senate seat held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, his longtime ally. Feinstein’s term ends in 2024, and she has not yet announced whether she plans to seek re-election. She would be 91 on Election Day. Questions about her mental acuity have followed her for more than two years, and her Democratic colleagues told The Chronicle in April 2022 that they believe her memory issues are hindering her ability to do the job. Feinstein told the Los Angeles Times in December that she plans to finish her term, and will announce whether she will run again “probably by spring.” She told Raw Story Wednesday that she doesn’t plan to announce her decision until 2024. When asked about others running for her seat, she said, “oh, I don’t mind it.... The more, the merrier.” A spokesperson for Feinstein said Thursday she “was speaking about the timing of the … [Read more...] about Trump impeachment star Adam Schiff announces U.S. Senate run

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - At makeshift memorials, bowls of oranges and incense sticks waft sweet smells into the air, assuring the soul's smooth journey into the next life in accordance with Buddhist tradition. Mourners gather for prayer meetings at local churches, seeking peace and consolation. One victim's family asked for rosaries and Masses in their honor. As this community known as the "first suburban Chinatown" begins to mourn the 11 people killed when a gunman burst into a dance studio as Lunar New Year celebrations were starting, they are pulling from traditions old and new to adapt to a uniquely American ritual: mourning after a mass killing. What for many in the Asian diaspora is typically a private period of reflection is now public as photos of victims are displayed, officials like Vice President Harris arrive with bouquets of flowers, and city leaders convene vigils to … [Read more...] about Monterey Park’s Asian diaspora adopts new rite: Mourning after gun violence

Click here to read the full article. On the first day of shooting “Home Improvement” in April 1991, Pamela Anderson emerged from her dressing room on the Walt Disney Studios lot and found series star Tim Allen loitering in the hallway in a bathrobe. This seemed normal to the 23-year-old budding actress, but it wasn’t. “He opened his robe and flashed me quickly — completely naked underneath,” Anderson writes in her soon-to-be-released memoir, “Love, Pamela.” “He said it was only fair, because he had seen me naked. Now we’re even.” “I laughed uncomfortably,” she writes. Journalist Missing Ahead of Tiananmen Anniversary

April 29, 2014 by www.nytimes.com Leave a Comment

HONG KONG — Gao Yu, a prominent Chinese journalist who was imprisoned following the 1989 suppression of the student protests in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, is missing, with friends saying she may have been detained ahead of the 25th anniversary of the crackdown. Yao Jianfu, a retired party official and policy researcher in Beijing who is friends with Ms. Gao, said the journalist had been scheduled to attend a meeting on Saturday in Beijing to commemorate the People’s Daily editorial of April 26, 1989, that declared the student protests to be “turmoil” and magnified divisions about how the leadership should deal with the demonstrators occupying Tiananmen Square. The gathering of former officials and scholars was also to commemorate Chen Yizi, a former adviser to Zhao Ziyang, the Communist Party secretary who opposed the crackdown, Mr. Yao said. Mr. Chen, an important figure in the 1989 uprising, died in Los Angeles this month. “She’s been out of contact for three days,” Mr. Yao … [Read more...] about Journalist Missing Ahead of Tiananmen Anniversary

Jimmy Kimmel on What He Remembers From the First Night of His Talk Show 20 Years Ago: ‘I Was Totally Unprepared’

January 26, 2023 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

Click here to read the full article. The odds that “ Jimmy Kimmel Live” would still be here, 20 years after its launch on Jan. 26, 2003, were astronomically low. The network hadn’t done a traditional late-night talk show since the short-lived “Into the Night With Rick Dees” (hosted, coincidentally, by another Los Angeles radio veteran) in 1991, and the time slot’s previous inhabitant, “Politically Incorrect,” had been canceled due to declining ratings — and controversy over 9/11-related comments host Bill Maher had made. Those early reviews were rough ( including Variety , which lamented that “ABC is stuck with a show designed by a network that’s not quite ready for cable”) and the show struggled in its early months to book guests. And soon, Kimmel’s biggest backer at the network, then-ABC chairman Lloyd Braun, was out the door. More from Variety Jimmy Kimmel to Executive Produce Vice TV Series Based on 'Super70sSports' Twitter Feed 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' … [Read more...] about Jimmy Kimmel on What He Remembers From the First Night of His Talk Show 20 Years Ago: ‘I Was Totally Unprepared’
