The German police are investigating Roger Waters, a founder of the band Pink Floyd, who has long been critical of Israel, after he performed in Berlin last week wearing a Nazi-style costume like the one he used to critique fascism in “The Wall.” Mr. Waters, who has made anti-Israel statements in the past that many have said cross a line into antisemitism, has successfully fought two attempts by German courts to block him from German concert venues in the past. The investigation is focused on the costume Mr. Waters wore during a rendition of the 1979 Pink Floyd song “In the Flesh,” from their seminal album “The Wall,” in which a rock star imagines himself as a fascist dictator. Similar staging was featured in the 1982 movie “Pink Floyd: The Wall,” featuring Bob Geldof. During parts of the concerts in Berlin, on May 17 and May 18, Mr. Waters wore a black trench coat with epaulets and a red armband, according to videos posted to social media and witnesses. Flanked by men dressed … [Read more...] about Berlin Police Investigate Roger Waters After He Wore Nazi-Style Costumes at Concerts

Arizona Limits Construction Around Phoenix as Its Water Supply Dwindles
Arizona has determined that there is not enough groundwater for all of the housing construction that has already been approved in the Phoenix area, and will stop developers from building some new subdivisions, a sign of looming trouble in the West and other places where overuse, drought and climate change are straining water supplies. The decision by state officials very likely means the beginning of the end to the explosive development that has made the Phoenix area the fastest growing metropolitan region in the country. Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix and its suburbs, gets more than half its water supply from groundwater. Most of the rest comes from rivers and aqueducts as well as recycled wastewater. In practical terms, groundwater is a finite resource; it can take thousands of years or longer to be replenished. The announcement of a groundwater shortage, what the state calls “unmet demand” for water over the next hundred years, means Arizona would no longer give … [Read more...] about Arizona Limits Construction Around Phoenix as Its Water Supply Dwindles
This Bacteria-Filtering Water Bottle Is Just $17 Right Now
Photo-Illustration: The Strategist; Photo: Retailer As someone who evangelizes about hydration, I’ve written about water bottles that can filter out dirt and bacteria, and how crucial that can be for hiking, backpacking , and general travel. But a lot of the models we’ve covered, including the LifeStraw Go and the Larq (which zaps your water with a UV light) cost at least $40 (and run upwards of $70 ), which can feel rather expensive — especially if you’re not using the filter. This bottle from Philips extracts harmful bits from your water just as well as the ones above, and is a more affordable option — even without the 26 percent discount you can take advantage of right now. It has a long straw that’s connected to a filter near the mouthpiece that’s in turn protected by a dust cap. The one downside is that the filters won’t last as long as the LifeStraw, but you can buy replacements . (Replace them every several weeks with frequent use, or up to three months … [Read more...] about This Bacteria-Filtering Water Bottle Is Just $17 Right Now
‘Blood In The Water’: Trump PAC Takes Shot At DeSantis In Response To Tim Scott Presidential Bid
A super PAC allied with former President Donald Trump took shots at Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina after Scott filed paperwork for a presidential campaign Friday. “Ron DeSantis’ failed shadow campaign has opened the flood gates for career politicians looking to seize an opportunity to raise their profile ahead of the 2028 race,” Make America Great Again Inc. CEO Taylor Budowich said in a statement. (RELATED: Whoopi Goldberg Says She Can’t Tell The Difference Between Tim Scott And Rick Scott) “Tim Scott’s entrance, and aggressive media purchase, doesn’t only kneecap DeSantis, but Scott sees the same thing as Youngkin, Sununu, Burgum, Christie, and others: the path to 2nd place is wide open. They smell Ron DeSantis’ blood in the water and no longer see him as an obstacle,” Budowich continued. Ron DeSantis’ failed shadow campaign has opened the flood gates for career politicians looking to seize an opportunity to raise … [Read more...] about ‘Blood In The Water’: Trump PAC Takes Shot At DeSantis In Response To Tim Scott Presidential Bid

The Biden administration announced Monday that seven western states had reached an agreement to conserve critical Colorado River system water supplies amid severe drought conditions. The agreement — reached by the so-called Lower Basin states of Arizona, California and Nevada — ensures that at least 3 million acre-feet (maf), or 978 billion gallons, of Colorado River water supplies are conserved by 2027, according to the Department of the Interior (DOI) which has worked with states to address shortages. Under the plan, at least half of that amount will be conserved by 2025. "There are 40 million people, seven states, and 30 Tribal Nations who rely on the Colorado River Basin for basic services such as drinking water and electricity," … [Read more...] about Biden admin announces ‘historic’ plan to reduce western states’ water supply

Three western states of California, Arizona and Nevada proposed a deal Monday that would cut their water use from the Colorado River over the next three years.
