ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Arlington Police officers got an unusual call from 911 dispatch this week, days before Halloween. The dispatchers told the officers over their radio about an “unknown creature.” RELATED: DFW Weather: Dangerous Travel Conditions Ahead With Snow, Ice Expected Throughout North Texas “I’m not sure what kind of animal it is, but it’s eight or nine feet tall,” the dispatcher said. “The callers say they’re not sure what the figure is. They say it’s the size of a gorilla and it’s blocking the entrance to a complex.” The “five-legged creature” was walking in front of the Villas Apartments off Arkansas Lane. When police arrived and approached the creature, it turned out to be quite human. “Unknown creature” call (credit: Arlington PD) “I did not mean to cause a disturbance,” the man in the elaborate costume told the officers. He got in touch with CBS 11 and said his name is Tyler Ethridge and he designed the costume himself. He was just checking it out when people saw him and started calling police. North Texas Congressman Ron Wright Won’t Let Lung Cancer Define Him
ARLINGTON, TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Congressman Ron Wright of Arlington says when doctors told him he had lung cancer nine months ago, he was devastated. “When you get a diagnosis like this, it’s a kick in the pants,” Wright said.RELATED: Shooting At White Settlement Apartment Complex Leaves 2 Dead, Police Search For Suspects After diagnosing it fairly early though, Wright says doctors now give him a bright outlook. “I’m feeling great, I had the last radiation treatment this morning. [Thursday] went well, got to ring the bell,” he said. Because Wright used to smoke, his doctors occasionally take chest x-rays during physicals, which is how they spotted the cancer. “I’ll be honest with you… The reason I went in for the physical was they weren’t going to renew my prescription for cholesterol medicine unless I went in for a physical, and I was glad they did because they found it,” he said. Wright, who represented Texas’ 6th congressional district, died on Feb. 7, 2021 after contracting COVID-19 while at the same time battling lung cancer. Patrol Car Hit, Arlington Officers Respond To More Than 82 Crashes Overnight Due To Slick Roads
ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Arlington police officers have responded to 82 crashes since 10 p.m. on Feb. 10 due to slick, icy road conditions. The vast majority of the wrecks were on bridges and overpasses along I.H. 20, U.S. 287, S.H. 360 and I.H. 30. The officer was outside investigating a separate crash so he was not injured. Police continued to urge caution on Thursday, Feb. 11, due to unsafe speeds for driving conditions. In the morning, officers were still working nearly two dozen crashes or assist motorist calls where people where disabled or spun out. White House Partners With Texas To Open New COVID-19 Vaccine Mega Centers In Dallas, Arlington
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) — The White House has partnered with the State of Texas to build two new major Community Vaccination Centers in North Texas. The new sites will be at Fair Park in Dallas and AT&T Stadium in Arlington. There is also a third center opening in Houston. Together, the sites will be capable of administering more than 10,000 shots per day. As it stands, the mega vaccine centers are expected to be up and running beginning the week of February 22. The goal of establishing the joint federal centers is to continue to expand the rate of vaccinations in an efficient, effective and equitable manner, with a focus on making sure that communities with a high risk of COVID-19 exposure and infection are not left behind.
