‘A mentor, a teacher and a friend’: El Farolito restaurant owner and San Francisco soccer icon, Salvador ‘Don Chava’ Lopez, has died

Salvador “Don Chava” Lopez, who was known in San Francisco for founding both the El Farolito restaurant chain and a premier soccer club of the same name in the San Francisco Soccer Football League, has died. San Jose State Women’s Basketball Cancels Remainder Of 2020-21 Season Amid Virus Issues including for two weeks in December after a member tested positive. The team had temporarily relocated to the Phoenix area last month after Santa Clara County banned all contact sports to slow the spread of the coronavirus. “This was an incredibly tough decision, but one that is in the best interest of the health and safety for our program’s student-athletes, coaches and staff,” SJSU athletics director Marie Tuite. “We look forward to watching the continued and exciting growth of our women’s basketball program in the 2021-22 season,” Tuite went on to say. Coronavirus cited as San Jose State cancels rest of women’s basketball season

“This was an incredibly tough decision, but one that is in the best interest of the health and safety for our program’s student-athletes, coaches and staff,” athletic director Marie Tuite said in a statement. “San Jose State will maintain its current schedule of competition in other sports while continuing to implement the athletics department’s health and safety protocols. Under current guidelines, low risk/contact sports such as golf, tennis, cross country and swimming can go on in counties that are in the purple (widespread risk of virus) tier. Moderate contact sports, such as baseball, lacrosse and softball can be played in red (substantial risk) counties. Football, volleyball, wrestling and soccer are allowed only in counties that are in the orange (moderate) tier.
