Several well-loved anchor s and reporters have sadly recently announced their departures from Houston TV news this year. However, that means there's also a lot of new faces to look forward to seeing on local broadcasts . Among the latest TV news hires is reporter Shannon Ryan, who joined ABC 13 earlier this month. On Instagram, Ryan posted a photo of herself on the ABC 13 set, with the words, "Next Life." The Pennsylvania State University grad previously worked as a crime reporter and multimedia journalist at the FOX-owned Austin station KTBC. She was also previously an anchor, producer, and multimedia journalist at WDVM in Washington, D.C. A Win for Israel’s Protesters
Much of life in Israel came to a halt yesterday: Hospitals stopped providing nonemergency care, planes were grounded at the country’s main airport, and malls and banks closed. The disruptions were part of an escalation in protests against the government’s proposed judicial overhaul, which has plunged Israel into one of its gravest political crises ever. The interruptions to daily life were the latest sign that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had underestimated Israelis’ opposition to his government’s proposed changes to the courts. In response to the chaos, he has relented, at least in part. Netanyahu announced yesterday that he would delay the changes until later this year . “When there is a possibility of preventing a civil war through dialogue, I, as the prime minister, take a timeout for dialogue,” he said. The announcement calmed some of the protesters and unions have called off their strikes. Sleep Therapy Is Expected to Gain a Wider Role in Depression Treatment
An insomnia therapy that scientists just reported could double the effectiveness of depression treatment is not widely available nor particularly well understood by psychiatrists or the public. The American Board of Sleep Medicine has certified just 400 practitioners in the United States to administer it, and they are sparse, even in big cities. That may change soon, however. Four rigorous studies of the treatment are nearing completion and due to be reported in coming months. In the past year, the American Psychological Association recognized sleep psychology as a specialty, and the Department of Veterans Affairs began a program to train about 600 sleep specialists. So-called insomnia disorder is defined as at least three months of poor sleep that causes problems at work, at home or in relationships.
