Natalie Nicole Warther and Ryan Paul Dols worked at the same creative agency for years before partnering on projects. Little did they know that a professional connection would lead to a romantic one. Both worked at 72andSunny, a global advertising agency that partners up staff writers and designers on client projects. She was a senior writer and he was a senior designer. And, in 2019, they both needed new partners at the agency, where they still work. In 2021, Mr. Dols was promoted to creative director. One July evening, the two chatted at a work party. “I swear on my life he said, ‘We should be partners,’” Ms. Warther said. “He swears on his life I said, ‘We should be partners.’” Either way, they decided to give it a shot. The work synergy was there from the start. And as the Covid-19 lockdown began in March 2020, and everyone was suddenly working from home, Ms. Warther said the two eventually “started turning the corner from being close friends and work partners to chatting on … [Read more...] about Breaking the Six-Feet Rule With Each Other

Crumbley Parents Appeal MI Court Ruling Stating They Can Face Trial
0 Crime & Safety The motion might be the couple's last chance to have charges in connection to the shooting against them thrown out. Dylan Siwicki , Patch Staff Posted | Updated Reply MICHIGAN — Jennifer and James Crumbley have asked the Michigan Supreme Court to reverse a lower court's ruling stating they can face trial on charges in connection to the deadly Oxford school shooting, according to court documents. The couple filed the appeal Wednesday, arguing the "Court of Appeals’ decision is clearly erroneous, will cause injustices, and conflicts with Michigan Court of Appeals and Supreme Court precedent." The motion does not mean the high court will hear the case. If justices reject the motion, the lower court ruling stands and the parents stand trial on the charges in connection to the shooting. If justices decide to hear the case, they will listen to arguments from the defense and prosecutors. If the … [Read more...] about Crumbley Parents Appeal MI Court Ruling Stating They Can Face Trial
Manson Family Killer Leslie Van Houten Should Be Paroled; Court Rules
26 Crime & Safety The ruling could lead to the first release of an active Tate-LaBianca killer, but the state could appeal to the CA Supreme Court. Paige Austin , Patch Staff Posted | Updated Replies LOS ANGELES, CA — A California appeals court said Tuesday that Leslie Van Houten, who participated in two killings at the direction of cult leader Charles Manson in 1969, should be let out of prison on parole. The ruling could pave the way for her release, making her the first active participant in the infamous Manson Family Tate-LaBianca murders to be paroled from prison. Her co-killers either remain locked up with her or died in prison. The appellate ruling could yet be overturned if the state appeals to the California Supreme Court to intervene, as is widely expected. The murders remain among the most shocking in state history, and officials have repeatedly sought to block any effort to parole the Manson Family … [Read more...] about Manson Family Killer Leslie Van Houten Should Be Paroled; Court Rules
Texas Court Halts Biden ATF’s Pistol Brace Rule Hours Before Deadline
A district court judge on Wednesday halted the Biden administration’s new rule that would charge gun owners who failed to register their braced firearms with a felony, just hours before it was set to go into effect. In January, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF) issued a “ Factoring Criteria for Firearms with Attached ‘Stabilizing Braces ‘” rule that said all gun owners with “stabilizing braces,” shoulder devices that turn pistols into short-barreled rifles, would need to get their gun registered and comply with the regulations for those types of weapons or face felony charges. Texas and several gun groups filed a lawsuit against the ATF, and on Wednesday Judge Drew Tipton of the Southern Texas District Court issued a preliminary injunction, barring the rule from going into effect on June 1. Why the ‘Rules’ of Politics Don’t Always Stymie Outsiders to the System
Over the years, I’ve noticed a recurring pattern in the emails I receive from readers about my columns on authoritarianism, far-right populism, democratic backsliding and related topics: a very similar type of shock at the news, and a very similar type of concern about what that might mean for the future. These messages tend to follow a rough structure: Shock at the news, but most prominently surprise because the event seems to clash with the apparent rules of political success that, as many people understood them, should have made such politicians unelectable. And then comes concern about the future: If those rules did not apply, the readers wondered, what other outcomes might then be possible? So, for instance, when Donald Trump won the 2016 election in the United States, many people emailed to express their shock that it was possible for a candidate to win an election after publicly referring to Mexican immigrants as “rapists,” or saying that a federal judge could not … [Read more...] about Why the ‘Rules’ of Politics Don’t Always Stymie Outsiders to the System
Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten should be paroled, appeals court rules
LOS ANGELES — A California appeals court said Tuesday that Leslie Van Houten, who participated in two killings at the direction of cult leader Charles Manson in 1969 , should be let out of prison on parole. The appellate court’s ruling reverses an earlier decision by Gov. Gavin Newsom, who rejected parole for Van Houten in 2020. She has been recommended for parole five times since 2016. All of those recommendations were rejected by either Newsom or former California Gov. Jerry Brown. Newsom could request that California Attorney General Rob Bonta petition the California Supreme Court to stop her release. Bonta’s office referred requests for comment to Newsom’s office, which didn’t respond to questions about possible next steps. Van Houten, now in her 70s, is serving a life sentence for helping Manson and other followers kill Leno LaBianca, a grocer in Los Angeles, and his wife Rosemary. Van Houten was 19 at the time. Newsom has said that Van Houten still poses a danger … [Read more...] about Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten should be paroled, appeals court rules
