These involve taking two prescription medicines days apart — at home or in a clinic. Abortion procedures are an invasive medical technique that empties the womb. They are sometimes called surgical abortions, although they don’t involve surgery. Abortion by pills involves the drugs mifepristone and misoprostol. As more states seek abortion limits, demand for the pills is expected to grow. HOW THE DRUGS WORK Mifepristone is taken first, swallowed by mouth. The drug dilates the cervix and blocks the effects of the hormone progesterone, which is needed to sustain a pregnancy. Misoprostol, a drug also used to treat stomach ulcers, is taken 24 to 48 hours later. The pill is designed to dissolve when placed between the gums and teeth or in the … [Read more...] about Medication abortion is common; here’s how it works

The ‘Barbie’ Movie Set Photos Have Gotten Out of Control
It’s no exaggeration when I say that the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie next summer is about the only thing giving me the strength to survive during an utterly cursed moment in American politics and global health—well, that and my COVID vaccine. The same seems true for most of Film Twitter, who can’t help but gleefully share any and all photos (and now videos) they can get their hands on of the movie, which is currently shooting. The stills, without any sort of context about the film’s plot, have managed to become memes . So far, Barbie ’s distributor, Warner Bros., has released two promotional photos from the upcoming film— one of Margot Robbie , who plays the titular lead, in a hot-pink convertible, and the other of Ryan Gosling as a beach-blond Ken with washboard abs. Twitter, myself included, rejoiced. In particular, the latter reveal seemed to give Gosling skeptics some confirmation that the 41-year-old actor is an ideal fit for one of pop culture’s most iconic … [Read more...] about The ‘Barbie’ Movie Set Photos Have Gotten Out of Control
Slaughter Beach reaches ecotourism enthusiasts
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 SLAUGHTER BEACH, Del. (AP) — As many Delawareans flock to Rehoboth and Dewey beaches this time of year, one of the state’s lesser-known coastal towns is experiencing revived tourism. For some, Slaughter Beach’s horseshoe crabs, red knots and other wildlife win out over shopping, the boardwalk and nightlife. A town with only two businesses, the northern Sussex County spot is experiencing an uptick in visitors interested in ecotourism, according to Mayor Bob Wood, who said its popularity is unlike anything he has seen since he’s lived there. Mayor Wood, originally from Baltimore, bought a Slaughter Beach house with his wife in December 1999, vacationing at the home before moving there permanently in 2016. He said that, though the town has been gentrified over the years, the recent boost of ecotourists mirrors an early boom in the area’s history. He hearkened back to … [Read more...] about Slaughter Beach reaches ecotourism enthusiasts
Mike Lupica: In the end, thin-skinned Kevin Durant wasn’t built for Brooklyn
The NBA has become a league dominated by headlines about whining, entitled stars acting like complete losers, even if they’ve won championships the way Kevin Durant has. The biggest headlines this week are about Durant, of course, who’s decided he’s unhappy with his current circumstances, and wants to go sit at another table where he thinks the cool kids are. And then there Kyrie Irving who, if there is any justice, will still be in Brooklyn now that Durant seeks the same greener pastures for which Irving keeps searching, even as he has now opted back into his own deal with the Nets. Send up a flare when Irving, who sabotaged any chance the Nets had to be anything last season because of his refusal to get vaccinated, wins another title. Why did he refuse? Because Irving thinks he knows more than the doctors, something that is no real surprise, since he thinks he knows more than everybody about pretty much everything. It is hard to think of the last player in the pros to have less … [Read more...] about Mike Lupica: In the end, thin-skinned Kevin Durant wasn’t built for Brooklyn
Confidence not health the problem for Aroldis Chapman, says Aaron Boone
CLEVELAND — Aroldis Chapman turned, put his head down and walked off the mound before Aaron Boone had gotten over the first base line. He had been handed an eight-run lead and just walked the bases loaded without recording an out in the seventh inning of his first game back off the injured list. He looked defeated as he left, even as the Yankees were en route to routing the Guardians 13-4 in the first game of a split doubleheader at Progressive Field. “I know he wants it,” Boone said of Chapman’s mindset right now. “The good thing is, like I said, I feel like his work and his sides and everything’s been really good. So it’s in there. “But I think there’s probably a little bit [of a lack of] confidence right now. That’s not there,” Boone said. “When Chappy’s at his best, he’s a mother out there. He’s got a lot of confidence and we gotta get that back to him. So that’s the biggest thing right now because I do feel like he’s healthy and the work is there. But it’s getting over … [Read more...] about Confidence not health the problem for Aroldis Chapman, says Aaron Boone
