Wine Enthusiast released its 50 best wine restaurants in America list where it celebrated the country’s top businesses with an emphasis on, you guessed it, great wines. Noticeably missing from the roster was a wide selection of Bay Area restaurants . Ironically, the annual award included Little Saint in Healdsburg as the only restaurant located in Wine Country. The other Bay Area restaurants included were San Francisco favorites Flour+Water and Nari . “With much of the food coming from the owners’ farms, this new, plant-forward restaurant/bar, market and shop from the SingleThread team has quickly become a focal point in the Sonoma wine and food community,” the magazine wrote about Little Saint. “The wine program shares the ‘farm-forward’ ethos. It highlights bottles with low environmental impact, from farming to packaging, as well as female and BIPOC winemakers.” Wine Enthusiast praised Flour+Water wine director Sam Bogue for his curated list of 80 wines that … [Read more...] about Only 3 Bay Area restaurants named in Wine Enthusiast’s 50 best wine restaurants in America list

Emily Miller always wanted her wedding to have a storybook element. For her, that did not mean a ride in a horse-drawn carriage or a gown fit for a princess. It meant a celebration filled with books. She and her husband Alex Seher, 31, a product manager at a lighting manufacturer, had originally planned to marry in the spring of 2021 at a Baltimore library, and give their guests custom bookmarks as favors. But when they decided to postpone their wedding to March 26 because of the pandemic, they learned the library would not reopen in time. They soon booked another venue, the Engineers Club of Baltimore. The club had the “grandeur” of their original location, Ms. Miller, 30, said. But it lacked a key component: books. To make it more bookish, the couple staged what she called an “open book bar” during cocktail hour. Available for their 120 guests to take were copies of 22 fiction and nonfiction titles related to the city of Baltimore, where the couple has lived since … [Read more...] about Looking for a Wedding Favor? If you’ve been paying attention to nutrition headlines lately, you may have noticed a recent lawsuit that claimed that Skittles — the colorful candies of “taste the rainbow” fame — were “unfit for human consumption” because of the presence of a “known toxin” called titanium dioxide. The class-action lawsuit, filed July 14 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, said that Mars Inc., the maker of the candies, had “long known of the health problems” the chemical compound posed, and that it had even publicly committed in 2016 to phase the substance out of its products. Yet, according to the complaint, the candy company “flouted its own promise to consumers” and continued to sell Skittles with titanium dioxide, posing a “significant health risk to unsuspecting consumers.” But what is titanium dioxide, exactly? And should you be concerned about it in your candy — or in any other food, for that matter? Here’s what we know. What is titanium … [Read more...] about A Lawsuit Claims Skittles Are Unfit for Consumption. Experts Weigh In.
