NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has ruled out four Titans for Sunday's game in Oakland and will be without a pair of cornerbacks with starter Adoree' Jackson and backup LeShaun Sims both out with injuries. Neither Jackson, who hurt a foot in last week's win at Indianapolis, nor Sims, who sat out last week with an injured right ankle, practiced all week. That leaves Tramaine Brock, claimed off waivers earlier in the week, likely to play against the Raiders (6-6). Tennessee was already thin in the secondary with Malcolm Butler on injured reserve. The Titans (7-5) also said Friday that wide receiver Adam Humphries (ankle) and linebacker Daren Bates (shoulder) will not play after not practicing all week. Tennessee did get a bit of good news. Receiver A.J. Brown left Thursday's practice after stretch with a calf issue, but the rookie who's leading the team with 626 yards receiving and four touchdown catches practiced fully Friday. ___ Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. … [Read more...] about Titans rule out 4 players vs Raiders, 2 of them cornerbacks

Raiders brace for Titans running game, led by ‘machine’ Derrick Henry
NFL teams can only hold so many padded practices during the season, per the collective bargaining agreement, and defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said the Raiders used theirs last this week. A main reason: Derrick Henry, the Titans running back that Guenther’s defense will be trying to bring down Sunday. “You have to make sure that you’re tackling and doing those things in practice,” Guenther said, “because he is a good back. He’s a big, hard-running guy.” Indeed, Henry is big - at 6-foot-3 and 247 pounds - and hard to stop. In his last three games, all Titans wins, Henry has rushed for 496 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. It makes for a matchup Sunday in Oakland of two physical rushing offenses featuring lead backs who played at Alabama. Henry, the fourth-year back who won a Heisman Trophy with the Crimson Tide in 2015, ranks third in the league in rushing with 1,140 yards this season. Josh Jacobs, the rookie first-round pick of the … [Read more...] about Raiders brace for Titans running game, led by ‘machine’ Derrick Henry
NFL Notes: Gronk solves post-playing stress with puzzles
Rob Gronkowski is enjoying life in retirement — one piece at a time. The former star tight end who helped the New England Patriots win three Super Bowls during his nine-year career uses jigsaw puzzles to lower his stress levels and to help his mental recovery. Gronkowski said in an interview with Reena Ninan for “CBS Sunday Morning” that airs Sunday on the CBS Television Network that he “just wasn't feeling like myself anymore” after retiring from playing football. He said the lifestyle caught up to him and he wasn't enjoying playing the game. The 30-year-old Gronkowski, who had 521 catches for 7,861 yards and 79 touchdowns, has used several methods to improve his life since his playing days, including nutrition programs, physical therapy — and solving puzzles. “It just lowered my stress levels just the way, you know, I was feeling,” Gronkowski said. “I just, you know, (was) just always anxious, always going. And I just needed to … [Read more...] about NFL Notes: Gronk solves post-playing stress with puzzles
Inter Miami CF Fills Out Roster In MLS Expansion Draft
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – Inter Miami CF filled out its roster for next season in the Major League Soccer expansion draft held on Tuesday. The team selected five players from a pool of 222 left unprotected by their current MLS teams. Miami added defender Ben Sweat, a Florida native, from NYCFC with its first selection. Sweat, a first-round draft pick by the Columbus Crew in 2014, has played three seasons in New York. This past season he appeared in 18 games with 13 starts. Miami also added Cincinnati defender Alvas Powell, LAFC midfielder Lee Nguyen, Columbus midfielder Luis Argudo and Seattle backup goalkeeper Bryan Meredith. “We’re excited about what we were able to accomplish with this draft,” said Inter Miami Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “We feel we are gaining momentum ahead of the 2020 season.” Inter Miami wasn’t drafting alone though. Sports betting slow in coming to California: Here’s what it might look like
A year and a half after a Supreme Court decision legalized sports betting across the country, California so far stands pat — not yet letting state residents get in on the action and leaving potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue on the table. With the NFL season 7 weeks old and the NBA season starting this week, millions of football and basketball fans are unable to place bets on the 49ers, Raiders, Golden State Warriors or any other teams. While there are efforts to legalize sports gambling in the nation’s most populous state, it’s no sure bet, as concerns raised by established gambling industries stymie legislation. Any plan to legalize sports wagers will require the cooperation of those interests and the approval of California legislators and, ultimately, voters. A 2018 U.S. Supreme Court ruling struck down a provision in the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, which prohibited states from authorizing sports wagers. … [Read more...] about Sports betting slow in coming to California: Here’s what it might look like
