1. Baltimore (10-2): The Ravens’ win over San Francisco combined with New England’s loss at Houston means the AFC goes through Baltimore if it keeps winning. Next: at Buffalo. 2. Seattle (10-2): A fake punt helped the Seahawks survive against Minnesota. Next: at L.A. Rams. 3. San Francisco (10-2): The 49ers held Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson to 105 yards passing, but allowed him to rush for 101 yards. Next: at New Orleans. 4. New Orleans (10-2): Job No. 1 for the Saints after last Thursday’s win — practice recovering on-side kicks. Next: vs. San Francisco. 5. New England (10-2): Forget the 448 yards they piled up against Houston. The Patriots should be panicking about their offense. Next: vs. Kansas City. 6. Green Bay (9-3): The Packers needed a response after getting run over by San Francisco and Aaron Rodgers delivered it via four touchdown passes. Next: vs. Washington. 7. Kansas City (8-4): To … [Read more...] about NFL Power Rankings, Week 14: Seahawks climb to No. 2 spot after San Francisco loss
In 1926, the United Daughters of the Confederacy erected a monument to the Ku Klux Klan in a town just outside Charlotte, North Carolina. Though the marker itself seems to have been lost to time—or more precisely, to the urbanization and shrubbery that has sprouted around it—proof of its existence endures thanks to the UDC’s own meticulous record-keeping. In 1941, a local division of the group published North Carolina’s Confederate Monuments and Memorials, a book that handily compiles various tributes to the Confederacy from around the state, many of them the UDC’s own handiwork. Writer Greg Huffman got his hands on a first pressing, in which he noted the monument’s inscription: “In commemoration of the ‘Ku Klux Klan’ during the Reconstruction period following the ‘War Between the States,’ this marker is placed on their assembly ground. Erected by the Dodson-Ramseur chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. … [Read more...] about Time to Expose the Women Still Celebrating the Confederacy
FORT COLLINS — CSU Rams athletic director Joe Parker was accused by some critics of overreaching in December 2017 with his five-year extension to football coach Mike Bobo, accused of putting all the leverage in Bobo’s hands if things went south. Things, sure enough, went south. But on Wednesday, after several days of negotiation, Bobo surrendered at least some of that leverage right back. He also surrendered lot of cash in the process, as both sides announced a separation agreement of approximately $1.975 million that ended the coach’s tenure in Fort Collins after five seasons. And speaking of going south …“Mike’s got a pretty well-defined opportunity that he’s going to be moving towards,” Parker told The Post on Wednesday when asked about Bobo — who has been rumored to be a candidate to become an offensive coordinator at several high-profile SEC landing spots, namely South Carolina and Georgia, his alma mater and former employer. … [Read more...] about Mike Bobo out after 5 seasons as CSU Rams football coach
Denver Post Broncos writer Ryan O’Halloran posts his Broncos Mailbag weekly during the season. You can pose a Broncos- or NFL-related question for the Broncos Mailbag here. Follow Ryan for more daily updates on Twitter. I’m disappointed in coach Vic Fangio. He makes some dumb decisions on the field. As much as I like and respect John Elway, he has got to go. He’s had bad drafts, has let some good coaches go and has let some good players go. — Harlan, Niwot Fangio has mostly escaped mailbag and email criticism from Broncos fans during the 2-5 start. But the reader could be referring to the early two-point conversion attempt against Kansas City (which failed) and the botched fake punt in the same game (I’m all for trying to steal a possession, but with a better play). But as one NFL assistant coach told me over the weekend, Fangio will continue growing into his new role and improve. As for Elway, his seat in the view of the Broncos’ fans … [Read more...] about Broncos Mailbag: Should Drew Lock’s debut be delayed due to pass protection ineptness?
