Utah social media law means kids need approval from parents
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Children and teens in Utah would lose access to social media apps such as TikTok if they don’t have parental consent and face other restrictions under a first-in-the-nation law designed to shield young people from the addictive platforms. The Board of Education suspended its policy barring school resource officers through June and directed Superintendent Alex Marrero to work with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock to “externally fund” two armed police officers and as many as two mental health workers at all high schools for the rest of the academic year. “The Board of Education will request that the Denver Police Department ensure every armed police officer is appropriately trained in the use of firearms, de-escalation techniques, policing in a school environment, knowledgeable of the school community they intend to serve and skilled in community policing,” the seven-member board wrote in the memo to the superintendent approved Thursday. But as an online creator, I believe that the real, undeniable problem with social media is that harassment and hatred can spread on platforms like TikTok on an enormous … [Read more...] about Opinion: I auditioned for ‘SNL’ on TikTok and then the world came crashing down on me
