Yep, July 4 Weekend Air Travel Is a Complete Mess

July 2, 2022 by nymag.com Leave a Comment

Photo: Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Flight delays and cancellations continue to plague the busiest July 4 travel weekend since before the pandemic. Ongoing airline-industry staffing shortages had already contributed to higher-than-average cancellation rates at nearly every major U.S. airline this year — an industry-wide annual rate of 2.8 percent (or 116,000 flights), compared with 2.1 percent in 2019. According to FlightAware data, 20 percent of U.S. flights this year have been behind schedule, compared with 17 percent in 2019. And airlines have cancelled four times as many flights on holiday weekends this year as they had in 2019. This has already led to weekend after weekend of frustration and derailed plans for American travelers, particularly now that summer travel has been picking up steam. Bad weather in the northeast threw a wrench in the gears on Friday, as well. The TSA said it screened more than 2.49 million passengers on Friday, which is about 310,000 more … [Read more...] about Yep, July 4 Weekend Air Travel Is a Complete Mess

Dennis Wang lost money on his first try, but then he learned from his mistakes. On his second effort as an electric vehicle flipper, Wang made $4,000. On his third, he hit what he considered the sweet spot, a $7,000 profit. All the deals involved Teslas that Wang bought and resold, flipping them like tickets to a hot concert. “I have a Model S currently that I’m probably going to sell within another three months, pending the market,” Wang said. “I also have another Model Y and a Model X on order.” Buying and reselling stuff is as old as commerce itself, complete with cautionary tales and questionable legality. House flipping has become so alluring that multiple reality TV shows hype the process and personalities involved . Now a new breed of flipper has emerged hoping zero emissions equal big profits. Helping them is an unusual confluence of factors plaguing EV manufacturers (supply chain problems, semiconductor shortages, unmet production goals, an emerging scarcity of … [Read more...] about EV demand is so hot that Tesla owners are flipping their cars like houses
