At 6 feet 9 inches, but solidly built, he could battle near the basket with giants like Wilt Chamberlain but also score from the perimeter with a smooth, left-handed jump shot. For his career, he averaged 18.7 points and 12.9 rebounds a game. He was the rookie of the year in 1965, appeared in seven All-Star Games, won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1970 and was the N.B.A. finals’ most valuable player both times the Knicks won the title.
