The chef Sam Fore received an ominous voice mail message this month from an unknown number. The caller identified himself as a private investigator working for the James Beard Foundation. Later that day, Ms. Fore found herself on a Zoom call, answering questions from him and another man. “They said to me, ‘We have an anonymous complaint we have to ask you about,’” she said. South Dakota University Ditches Policy Used By Official To Silence Pro-Gun Students

Black Hills State University (BHSU), located in South Dakota, removed a policy that allowed for officials to remove any “objectionable” person from campus after it was used to silence pro-gun students from speaking on campus, the free speech watchdog Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) reported. Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) students were surveying students about the second amendment in January when they were told by BHSU Director of Public Safety Phil Pesheck that they could not continue the activity because they had not filled out proper forms, despite students and student organizations being exempt, FIRE reported . South Carolina Enacts Six-Week Abortion Ban, Planned Parenthood Sues Immediately
Republican Gov. Henry McMaster of South Carolina signed legislation on Thursday that would restrict abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, and Planned Parenthood announced shortly after that they will be suing to block the law. McMaster signed the “ Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act ,” which bans abortion procedures after a fetus’s heartbeat can be detected, usually occurring after six weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape and incest, or for the mother’s physical health. The bill passed South Carolina’s Senate on Tuesday, and Planned Parenthood of South Atlantic immediately filed a lawsuit in the Richland County Circuit Court to block the bill shortly after it received McMaster’s signature. Judge Temporarily Blocks South Carolina Heartbeat Abortion Law
A judge in South Carolina blocked the state’s fetal heartbeat abortion law Friday, one day after it was signed into law and challenged by pro-abortion groups. Judge Clifton Newman of the Circuit Court of South Carolina issued the injunction pending a decision from the South Carolina Supreme Court about the bill, a similar version of which that court struck down in January. Newman’s decision reverts South Carolina’s abortion limit back to 22 weeks, according to Abortion Finder.
