Teresa Williams thought she landed her dream job in Iron Mountain, Michigan, becoming the first female officer in the history of the rural town's police department. But she was relentlessly harassed and assaulted during her four-and-a-half year tenure there and ultimately forced to resign, according to a federal lawsuit Williams filed last month against three officers in the Iron Mountain Police Department. Within weeks of being hired in October 2017, she said she was forced to make out with her direct supervisor at a bar, according to the suit. The supervisor and Williams’ former patrol partner also bet on who could have sex with her first, the suit said. “I want to see somebody step in and take action — like hold these people accountable,” she told NBC News on Thursday. “Just because you wear a badge and you’re a cop, it doesn’t mean you’re above the law. Trudeau Government Still Advertising on China’s Tik Tok Despite Ban
The Canadian federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is still using the Chinese-owned app Tik Tok for advertising despite banning it on all government employee devices. The Canadian government banned employees from using the controversial social media app last month amid what it termed an “unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security,” but reports note that the government continues to engage with Tik Tok for advertising. Mayor London Breed and San Francisco officials are proposing legislation aimed at making it easier for small businesses to get up and running, building on changes voters passed in 2020 to cut through layers of city bureaucracy and to cut down on the commercial vacancies plaguing some districts. The more than 100 proposed changes to the city’s planning code come at a time when some new business formations, particularly restaurants and bars, are on the rise in San Francisco, despite being well below pre pandemic averages. The proposed legislation would allow more retail spaces to be used for multiple purposes, while shortening how long it takes to get the right permits for a new business. It would also allow professional services in ground floor retail spaces, like an accountant’s office, which under the planning code are largely reserved for retail spaces.
