Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall Are Calling It Quits, Report Says

June 22, 2022 by www.thedailybeast.com Leave a Comment

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his wife Jerry Hall are divorcing, according to The New York Times. The two were married in March 2016 in a London ceremony—two years after Murdoch divorced his third wife, entrepreneur Wendi Deng—and have made multiple public appearances together since their nuptials. Hall, 65, even heaped praise on Murdoch during his 90th birthday party last year at a Central Park restaurant, according to the Times, leaving some aides that much more shocked about the sudden split. The marriage was Murdoch’s fourth following his relationships with Deng, journalist Anna Mann, and Patricia Booker. Hall was previously married to Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger, with whom she shares four children. The divorce is unlikely to affect Murdoch’s massive media empire, which includes Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, the U.K.’s Sky News, and a number of other international ventures. Those holdings are secured in a tightly managed trust, the shares of … [Read more...] about Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall Are Calling It Quits, Report Says

June 23, 2022 by www.latimes.com Leave a Comment

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and model-actor Jerry Hall are calling it quits, reportedly filing for divorce after six years of marriage. The New York Times first reported the split Wednesday, citing “two people with knowledge of the decision.” The divorce would mark the fourth for Murdoch, the 91-year-old NewsCorp. executive chairman. Representatives for Murdoch did not respond to The Times’ request for comment. Company Town Rupert Murdoch, scrappy Fox mogul who transformed media, begins his Hollywood goodbye Thirty-four years ago, Rupert Murdoch showed up in Hollywood with $250 million, buying a stake in the 20th Century Fox film studio — even though he had little interest in making movies. Jerry Hall cites ‘irreconcilable differences’ as she files for divorce from Rupert Murdoch

July 2, 2022 by www.nbcnews.com Leave a Comment

Jerry Hall filed for divorce from billionaire husband Rupert Murdoch on Friday, citing “irreconcilable differences,” six years after the pair married. The 66-year-old model sought unspecified spousal support and attorneys’ fees from 91-year-old media mogul Murdoch , in a California court filing. Hall said in the petition filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court she was “unaware of the full nature and extent of all (Murdoch’s) assets and debts, and will amend this petition when the information has been ascertained.” She also asked the court to terminate its ability to be able to award support to Murdoch. Hall’s attorney, Ronald Brot, did not immediately respond to Reuters request for a comment. Murdoch’s legal representatives could not be reached outside of business hours. Murdoch and Hall married in a low-key ceremony in central London’s Spencer House in March 2016. It was Murdoch’s fourth marriage. The New York Times reported in June that the expected … [Read more...] about Jerry Hall cites ‘irreconcilable differences’ as she files for divorce from Rupert Murdoch

Jury takes fraud case against Elizabeth Holmes’s ex-partner

June 24, 2022 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The fate of hard-nosed technology executive Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani is now in the hands of a jury that will weigh criminal charges alleging he joined disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, his former partner, in an elaborate fraud that jarred Silicon Valley. U.S. District Judge Edward Davila handed the case to the jury Friday afternoon after federal prosecutors in San Jose, California, finished a rebuttal to more than 11 hours of closing arguments methodically laid out by one of Balwani’s lawyers, Jeffrey Coopersmith. The jury will pore over testimony, emails, salacious texts, and other evidence submitted during a three-month trial as they sort through the 12 counts of fraud and conspiracy filed against Balwani for his role at Theranos, a blood-testing company founded by Holmes when she was just 19. Balwani, 57, began dating Holmes, now 38, around the same time she dropped out of Stanford University in 2003 to found her startup. He helped Holmes behind … [Read more...] about Jury takes fraud case against Elizabeth Holmes’s ex-partner

Against Government Regulation for British Tabloids

July 14, 2017 by www.thedailybeast.com Leave a Comment

The consistent ethical and moral failings of British tabloid journalists are appalling enough, but their snooping into the private lives of British celebrities like Hugh Grant, Steve Coogan, and Charlotte Church has had an unseen side effect. Broadsheet readers and BBC viewers, the highbrow news consumers allergic to red-top journalism, are now routinely treated to comedians, singers, and actors blathering about the meaning of a free press. In a television debate with ex-tabloid reporter Paul McMullan, who happily admitted he accessed the voicemails of celebrities for the tabloid News of the World, Coogan barked, “The whole notion of press freedom is a smokescreen for selling newspapers.” On BBC’s Question Time , Church echoed the comedian, dismissing concerns that new legislation could hobble the free press as “smoke and mirrors.” After offering a mangled history of free expression, Church doubled down when asked how state regulation would impact social-media platforms like … [Read more...] about Against Government Regulation for British Tabloids

Right-Wing TV Host’s Temper Rocks OAN Newsroom

This reporting appears as one of several scoops featured in this week’s edition of Confider , the media newsletter that pulls back the curtain to reveal what’s really going on inside the world’s most powerful navel-gazing industry. Subscribe here and send your questions, tips, and complaints here . Far-right cable channel One America News Network has been going through a talent exodus these past few months, largely due to the uncertainty over its future after satellite provider DirecTV dropped the channel from its lineup this spring. But not everyone who’s left OAN is a casualty of the existential crisis the network currently finds itself in. According to four current and former staffers, OAN host Dan Ball’s workplace behavior prompted at least one person to bolt the network. Sources tell us that earlier this year Ball hurled a phone at a producer during a heated newsroom confrontation. That incident, the culmination of a volatile feud with the producer, … [Read more...] about Right-Wing TV Host’s Temper Rocks OAN Newsroom
