The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) announced its schedule for offering free Wi-Fi on every one of the agency's vehicles and at transit centers and select stations. In September, downtown trolleys, along with buses on the city's East Side (Hayden District), the Cleveland State University and the HealthLine, will have free Wi-Fi available. An estimated eight vehicles per day will come online after that, according to the GCRTA.Wi-Fi will be added to Triskett District and Paratransit vehicles in the fall and on railcars beginning in January.The Wi-Fi rollout is part of an overall $15 million grant to upgrade communication between vehicles and the GCRTA Integrated Communications System (ICC). AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority on Tuesday started offering free rides to federal employees during the partial government shutdown. Employees can show their federal ID to receive free fare on any Metro service, including line-service, Northcoast Express, SCAT and Call-A-Bus. Metro RTA is offering the promotion until the shutdown ends. "The decision to offer free rides is not a political one," said Metro Executive Director Dawn Distler in a news release. No tolls will be charged on Christmas Day on the Rainbow, Whirlpool Rapids and Lewiston-Queenston bridges, the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission announced this week. The free period lasts from 11:30 p.m. Christmas Eve to 11:30 p.m. Christmas Day. The announcement follows the example of the Peace Bridge, which also will be toll-free for 24 hours on the holiday. The normal auto toll is $3.75. "We are pleased to waive the toll for travelers for this 24-hour period as a gesture of our gratitude to the community," said Kenneth Bieger, general manager of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea told reporters that search crews recovered seven more bodies in the burn area: three in Magalia, three in Paradise and one in Concow. The California Highway Patrol also said an officer found a body inside a charred car flipped on its side in Paradise, but it was not clear if that fatality was counted in the sheriff’s toll. The number of people unaccounted for soared to 631 — up from 130 on Wednesday evening — after authorities combed through additional 911 calls and other reports generated at the peak of the chaotic evacuation.
