PHOENIX — The Knicks inherited the worst record in the NBA from the Suns after Monday’s loss to Sacramento. The battle for the bottom will rage on Wednesday with the Knicks (13-51) in town to face the Suns (14-51). If these squads remain the bottom two, they’re both assured a top-six pick in the lottery. (The team that “wins’’ out for worst record can’t fall past the No. 5 pick.) With Knicks fans ravenous about this lottery despite it not being a deep draft, here’s a look at the top six prospects. As one college scout cautions, “After the top two, it’s shaky and it will shake to a froth as it gets closer.’’ 1. Zion Williamson The world-famous manchild’s No. 1 stock hasn’t taken a blow since he blew out his sneaker and sprained his knee. Team executives hope the 6-foot-7, 285-pound dunk machine returns for conference tournament play so they can dissect more of the freshman’s explosive game — … [Read more...] about Draft gets ‘shaky’ for Knicks if they miss out on Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – RJ Barrett leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring. He just recorded Duke’s first triple-double in 13 years. And – as long as his roommate Zion Williamson is still around – he won’t have top billing for the top-ranked Blue Devils. That’s just fine with Barrett. “Him getting attention draws more attention to us, too,” Barrett said Tuesday. While Williamson has been good for a highlight-reel play in virtually every game, the less-flashy Barrett has been consistently productive for first-place Duke (23-2, 11-1) entering its rivalry matchup Wednesday night with No. 8 North Carolina (20-5, 10-2). “We can’t just keep our eye on Superman,” UNC coach Roy Williams said, referring to Williamson. Barrett and Williamson are clearly the biggest stars on the highest-profile team in the country. Most mock drafts have both being selected early in the NBA draft – should they turn pro after the season. So … [Read more...] about Quiet RJ Barrett shines in Zion’s shadow for No. 1 Duke
By Tim Bielik, cleveland.com | Posted February 15, 2019 at 05:00 AM Duke's RJ Barrett controls the ball against St. John's LJ Figueroa in their game earlier this season. (Gerry Broome, Associated Press) CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavaliers have for weeks looked like the team most likely to have the worst record in the NBA and most need the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. That could still be the case. But something has changed: the Knicks and Suns haven’t been winning at all lately. The Knicks had lost 18 straight before Thursday, and the Suns are on a 15-gamer. The Cavs aren’t much better, but they have now fallen to the No. 3 spot in the lottery. The three worst teams share the best odds for No. 1 -- 14 percent each. But if the Cavs fall out of the top two and assuming Duke’s Zion Williamson will go first regardless of who has the pick, will they miss out on RJ Barrett as well? Depends on who has the No. 2 pick. Here is this week’s NBA mock draft … [Read more...] about 2019 NBA lottery mock draft 3.0: Can Duke’s RJ Barrett fall past No. 2?
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — If you want a peek into the future of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the first look should be the present edition of the Duke Blue Devils. With six weeks left in the college regular season, there is still plenty of time to determine if second-ranked Duke has enough true depth for an NCAA Championship run. And plenty of time for Cavs scouts and fans to evaluate a pool of talent from which Cleveland could draw. When it comes to projectable talent in the 2019 NBA Draft, there is no doubt Duke is stacked. If the Cavs, as currently expected, land one of the first three picks in the draft, then there is a good probability they’ll consider the Blue Devils' trio of outstanding freshmen:Power forward Zion Williamson (6-7, 280) from Spartanburg, South CarolinaSwingman RJ Barrett (6-7, 220) from Mississauga, OntarioSharpshooter Cam Reddish (6-8, 218) from Norristown, Pennsylvania. “It’s quite obvious Zion makes spectacular plays, on both ends of the … [Read more...] about Watching Duke’s Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, Cam Reddish is one-stop shopping for Cavs fans, scouts (video)
