Katie Dawn Schad and Adam Robert Purdy began a fun, flirty friendship a decade after they bumped into each other at their dorm their first week at Wesleyan in 2009. “I have an aunt and uncle who live in Studio City,” Mr. Purdy said, as soon as Ms. Schad mentioned she was from that part of Los Angeles. “Have you ever been to Beeman Park?” He grew up in Montclair, N.J. “Yeah, maybe,” she said, of the small neighborhood park. On a fall evening in 2017, Dr. Ross Martin Uhrich headed to a bar in Washington to meet a woman he had matched with on Bumble. He had low expectations. So low, in fact, that he put the ingredients for a chicken stew in his slow cooker and set a timer for two and a half hours. City News Service , News Partner Posted Reply NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A registered sex offender pleaded not guilty Monday to sexually assaulting two women in Newport Beach. Navdeep Singh Jhaj, 33, of Orange, was charged Thursday with two counts of assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense in a burglary, a count of sexual penetration of an unconscious victim and failing as a sex offender to notify law enforcement within five days of a change of address, all felonies. Jhaj, who was arrested Thursday and was being held on $1 million bail, listed his occupation as chef, according to jail records. Jhaj pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana and was next due in court March 21 for a pretrial hearing in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
