Amazon can finally check this off its list: Open fulfillment center in Colorado. The company’s first fulfillment center in the state, which opened this month, has shipped its first package, which ironically was to McAllen, Texas, a state with at least seven Amazon fulfillment centers. The new Aurora location ramped up fast. Since August , it has hired 900 employees and is near its 1,000-workforce goal to handle the peak holiday season, according to Ashley Robinson, an Amazon spokeswoman. Supplied by Amazon The new Amazon fulfillment center in Aurora only handles large items, like this order for Rock Band 4 that was the first item shipped from the new Colorado facility. Supplied by Amazon Amazon employees packed the first customer order in mid-September, which was a Rock Band 4 game and sent to a customer in McAllen, Texas. Supplied by Amazon Amazon opened its first Colorado fulfillment center in Sept. 2017. By Sept. 29, it had hired 900 workers out of a planned 1,000. New employees were greeted on their first day of work by an orange carpet and the Aurora team’s Yeti mascot, as well as the Denver Bronco’s Drum Line, cheerleaders, and Miles the mascot. But very quickly we were able to start onboarding hundreds of new employees. It’s been great.” And the company is still hiring full-time workers she added. Benefits include tuition assistance , 401(k) retirement contributions and health insurance on day one. Pay is $12.50 an hour. Sara Carter: Lethal cartels control border – they make billions on drugs, trafficking while migrants suffer
close Video Former CBP Commissioner Morgan: Biden’s immigration policy is ‘facilitating illegal immigration’ Former CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan reacts to the ‘remain in Mexico’ policy ending under the Biden administration. On Jan. 22, 12 Mexican state police officers allegedly participated in the mass murder of 19 people, including migrants from Guatemala , who were only miles away from the Texas border. The smugglers, along with the migrants, were shot and burned beyond recognition. They were discovered piled on top of one another in a charred pickup truck near Camargo, Mexico , near the Rio Grande River. The investigation is ongoing but authorities in Mexico suspect that the smugglers didn’t pay the local cartel 's pisos , a sort of tax imposed for using their territory to move people across. In the end the migrants paid the ultimate price. REP. JOHN KATKO: BIDEN'S BORDER CRISIS – HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED IN RECORD TIME, AND WHERE THIS WILL LEAD These are the deaths that are often ignored in the tragedy of the illegal immigration debate, but they are frequent and horrific. In the narco-world there are only two choices once you cross into their territory – plata o plomo – in English it's "silver or lead." Any group, any person, traversing the border illegally is at the mercy of the cartels: if the silver isn't paid, a "lead" bullet is the retribution. It can be the person selling food in the placita , the local police officer seemingly patrolling the route along the border or a child riding his bike with a Nextel in his back pocket. The narco-payrolls go far beyond those just trafficking drugs and their foot soldiers can be anyone. The State Department designates the major cartels as Transnational Criminal Organizations, and they collect so-called taxes from migrants being smuggled into the ...
Colorado’s first Amazon fulfillment center in Aurora to be stocked with larger items
When Colorado’s first Amazon fulfillment center opens later this year, the 1 million-square-foot warehouse in Aurora won’t be full of books, beauty products and small gadgets. Instead, the 36-foot-tall racks will be packed with some of the larger items that customers order from the e-commerce giant, Amazon officials said Friday during a construction tour of the site. “Anything that’s greater than 18 inches in diameter would be in this building,” spokeswoman Ashley Robinson said. “You’re talking baseball bats, boxes of diapers, patio furniture, musical equipment.” Orders for smaller items will continue to be fulfilled out of state, potentially at centers in Texas, Arizona or Kansas, she said. “Our buildings don’t just serve one specific region. They serve everywhere,” Robinson said. “So while we’re locating this building to be as close as possible to the customer, that doesn’t mean you’re still not getting those items from all across the country.” Construction is on schedule for a late summer opening, officials said. Hiring has already begun for managerial and support staff positions, although most of the other 1,000 full-time jobs will be filled closer to the center’s launch . The facility, on East 19th Avenue north of the Interstate 70/E-470 junction, is in Prologis Park 70, about 5 miles east of Amazon’s existing Aurora sorting center . The fulfillment center will feature something called very narrow aisle racking — the 36-foot-tall racks will be separated by aisles that are just four feet wide and employees will use specialized powered industrial trucks to reach the items, Robinson said. Opening a fulfillment center in Colorado is the next step toward expanding customer benefits here, she said. Amazon has offered Sunday delivery in the Denver area since last year, when it opened the sorting center . “The hope is as we continue to expand our logistics network here in Colorado, we’ll be able to increase the Prime customer benefits for ...
