New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is apparently hoping for a federal solution to the illegal immigration problem in New York, despite the state’s Democrat officials touting the “sanctuary” status of their state as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) busses illegal immigrants to New York City. Hochul has wholly ignored the issues caused by her state’s immigration policies, including the “Green Light law,” which allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), a GOP gubernatorial candidate, is among those who have called on New York to take action and cease “incentivizing” illegal entry. “I’m not here to pass blame on a Democrat or Republican policy,” Hochul said . “This cries out for a federal response.” “I’m not sure they are coming into Texas because of what we’re doing here in New York,” the Democrat told reporters. “This cries out for a federal solution. Democrat, Republican we have to get this together.” The Democrat’s remarks coincide with the Texas … [Read more...] about Kathy Hochul Seeks ‘Federal Solution’ to Illegal Immigration Problem in NY

Southern Baptists say denomination faces DOJ investigation
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention said Friday that several of the denomination's major entities are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice in the wake of its multiple problems related to clergy sex abuse. The SBC's Executive Committee has received a subpoena, but no individuals have been subpoenaed at this point, according to the committee's lawyers. “This is an ongoing investigation and we are not commenting on our discussions with DOJ,” they said. The statement from SBC leaders — including Executive Committee members, seminary presidents and heads of mission organizations — gave few details about the investigation, but indicated it dealt with widespread sexual abuse problems that have rocked the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S. “Individually and collectively each SBC entity is resolved to fully and completely cooperate with the investigation,” the statement said. “While we continue to grieve and lament past mistakes … [Read more...] about Southern Baptists say denomination faces DOJ investigation
Nolte: American College Enrollment Plummets
According to a report published at far-left NBC News, American college enrollment has plummeted over the last ten years. “There are 4 million fewer students in college now than there were 10 years ago ,” the report tells us. And this cannot be blamed on the China Flu or an overheated job market : But while the pandemic certainly made things worse, the downturn took hold well before it started. Demographics alone cannot explain the scale of this drop. And statistics belie the argument that recent high school graduates are getting jobs instead of going to college: Workforce participation for 16- to 24-year-olds is lower than it was before Covid hit, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or BLS, reports. Focus groups and public opinion surveys point to other, less easily solved reasons for the sharp downward trend. These include widespread and fast-growing skepticism about the value of a degree, impatience with the time it takes to get one, and costs that have finally exceeded … [Read more...] about Nolte: American College Enrollment Plummets
ANALYSIS: Democrats Pivot To New Midterm Strategy, But Will It Save Them?
Amidst rising inflation , high gas prices , and record low approval ratings for president Joe Biden, Democrats are scrambling for a midterm strategy that appeals to voters and they may have just found it in healthcare policy. The question remains if the issue is important enough to swing voters to make up for the dismal odds the Democratic Party faces against the GOP in November. As of this writing, Politico’s Election forecast predicts the House will go to Republicans in the 2022 midterms. Democrats hope to crawl back into the good graces of Americans with the Inflation Reduction Act, which they say will lower healthcare costs for Americans. “Democrats plan to spend the next three months campaigning on their health policy wins, but nearly everything in the bill that voters would have felt immediately was stripped out,” Politico reported Friday. (RELATED: Biden’s Inflation Crisis Is Likely To Hit Healthcare Soon) As the article points out, drug price negotiations … [Read more...] about ANALYSIS: Democrats Pivot To New Midterm Strategy, But Will It Save Them?
‘Who Is Domino?’ – U.S. Pizza Chain Files for Bankruptcy in Italy
EPizza SpA, the franchise operator for Domino’s Pizza in Italy, filed for bankruptcy in April and closed all of its stores after just seven years in the country, according to a report by Milano Today. “There was no point in opening it,” an Italian citizen told CNN Business. “Maybe for tourists, but for an Italian, an American pizza chain doesn’t make sense. It’s like me going to England and making fish and chips.” The company, however, blamed its demise in Italy on the Chinese coronavirus, claiming that two years of pandemic-related restrictions caused the business to struggle, according to a document filed in a Milan court. Domino’s added that it faced “unprecedented competition,” because local restaurants started using food delivery apps. “When I was living in Milan I remember some Domino’s delivery scooters, but it makes no sense,” one Italian citizen told CNN Business. But the company also said it faced problems once the pandemic restrictions were eased and … [Read more...] about ‘Who Is Domino?’ – U.S. Pizza Chain Files for Bankruptcy in Italy
Wall Street Does Damage Control After GOP Targets Woke Capital
Big banks that use their vast financial assets to oppose the fossil fuel industry in the name of reducing climate change are doing damage control as state treasurers and lawmakers take action against woke environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing. By taking environmental concerns into account in their investment decisions, large financial firms such as BlackRock , Goldman Sachs , JPMorgan , Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley are operating what some policy experts, GOP lawmakers, and state treasurers say is an effective boycott of the fossil fuel industry. Republican state treasurers have taken note of this practice, and many are pushing back. In July, West Virginia State Treasurer Riley Moore blocked five major financial firms from doing business in the state.
