Missing San Francisco radio host found dead

March 23, 2023 by www.sfchronicle.com Leave a Comment

The San Francisco Medical Examiner on Thursday confirmed the death of 55-year-old Jeffrey Vandergrift, the host of a popular Wild 94.9 radio morning show who disappeared last month. Police and firefighters said they pulled human remains from the water near Pier 39 at about 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. "At this time, we have no evidence of foul play," San Francisco Police Sgt. Adam Lobsinger said in a statement. Law enforcement turned the body, which at that point had not been identified, over to the medical examiner to conduct an investigation. Wednesday's tragic turn of events came roughly three weeks after Vandergrift's wife , Natasha Yi, said she believed her husband would not be coming back. Yi, who is also a host at Wild 94.9, said "personal information" uncovered during the search suggested that Vandergrift would not return. A figure on Bay Area radio airwaves since the 1990s, Vandergrift was known for hosting "The JV Show" weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. He was last … [Read more...] about Missing San Francisco radio host found dead

Jeffrey Vandergrift, the celebrated Wild 94.9 radio host who has been missing since February , has died, San Francisco ’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner told SFGATE on Thursday. “With a heavy heart, we must confirm that the body found near Pier 39 on Wednesday afternoon has been identified as our dear friend, family member & colleague, JV,” wrote his employer, Wild 94.9, in a March 23 Twitter post. “We are devastated to know now that JV is gone. Please keep his wife Natasha, his family, and close friends in your thoughts and prayers.” A longstanding figure in the Bay Area community, the “JV Show” host cultivated a dedicated audience of listeners at the hit radio station over the years. He was perhaps best known for his mischievous on-air antics, often pulling pranks and making people laugh, according to the station . He was also open about his own personal hardships. The best ways to experience San Francisco’s beloved Nob Hill

March 23, 2023 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

The Nob Hill neighborhood lives up to its "hill" moniker . The neighborhood climbs from Van Ness on one side and then back down to Powell Street on the other, and up from Bush Street down to Broadway. This is one of San Francisco's most historic neighborhoods, full of gorgeous sites and fabulous hotels and restaurants to luxuriate in. Things to do and see in (and from) Nob Hill Nob Hill's center point is at the top of the neighborhood's and very much worth the climb: one square block of beauty with the unforgettable Grace Cathedral at one end and the luxurious Fairmont San Francisco and InterContinental Mark Hopkins hotels at the other. The intersection of California and Mason streets may not be the highest point in San Francisco — Mount Davidson holds that honor at 938 feet — but it definitely feels that way when you find yourself looking down at the rest of the city. It's easy to see why the "Big Four" railway magnates — Charles Crocker, Mark Hopkins, Collis … [Read more...] about The best ways to experience San Francisco’s beloved Nob Hill

Office rents rise in once-blighted Mid-Market

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 2 An office shortage in San Francisco's existing high-tech district is aiding the revival of the Mid-Market neighborhood, as young companies migrate to a new hub with fast-rising rents. Asking rates on Market Street between Fifth Street and Van Ness Avenue jumped 18 percent in the second quarter from a year earlier to an average of $46.48 a square foot, data from brokerage CBRE Group show. Internet firms have driven the gains. The once-bleak stretch of largely empty buildings has had $2.4 billion in development and property sales since 2011, including projects by Hudson Pacific Properties, AvalonBay Communities and Shorenstein Properties, according to CBRE. San Francisco's surging job growth and scant new-office supply sparked the renewal, along with a 4.4 percent vacancy rate in the South of Market neighborhood that constrained growth there. "We knew there was going to be overflow, but … [Read more...] about Office rents rise in once-blighted Mid-Market
