Illinois State Rep. Marcus Evans Jr. (D) is attempting to fight a surge in Chicago carjackings by pushing to ban the sales of the Grand Theft Auto video game. The New York Post reports that Evans “introduced legislation Friday to amend an existing state law that prohibits the sale of certain video games to minors.” The Chicago Sun-Time s notes the legislation, HB3531, would ban sales of other games too, targeting games that allegedly depict “psychological harm.” Evans said, “The bill would prohibit the sale of some of these games that promote the activities that we’re suffering from in our communities.” WTTW explained that 218 carjackings were reported in Chicago in January 2021 alone, which is an increase of 183 percent over the number of carjackings witnessed in January 2020. On January 29, 2021, Breitbart News reported that Chicago Alderman Stephanie Coleman responded to the surge in carjackings by hiring a private firm to provide security for an hour each day so residents can safely pump gas. The Chicago Tribune observed that Coleman called the project, “Operation Safe Pump.” It was initially launched at “Citgo on 63rd Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway, and the Shell at 55th and Halsted.” AWR Hawkins is an award-winning Second Amendment columnist for Breitbart News and the writer/curator of Down Range with AWR Hawkins , a weekly newsletter focused o n al l things Second Amendment, also for Breitbart News. DNC releases video hitting Republicans on vote against coronavirus relief bill
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) War Room on Saturday released a new video hitting House Republicans for voting against a sweeping $1.9 trillion package that aims to provide financial relief for Americans amid the pandemic. The video, which the DNC posted on Twitter Saturday afternoon, includes news coverage of House Democrats passing the stimulus package in a 219-212 vote early in the early morning. Two Democrats — Reps. Jared Golden (Maine) and Kurt Schrader Walter (Kurt) Kurt Schrader House Democrats pass sweeping .9T COVID-19 relief bill with minimum wage hike House set for tight vote on COVID-19 relief package Democrats scramble to rescue minimum wage hike MORE (Ore.) — joined all Republicans in voting against the bill. ADVERTISEMENT The DNC’s video outlines that the package, dubbed the "American Rescue Plan," includes funding for coronavirus vaccine distribution, reopening schools and rental assistance. The package also includes an additional $400 in weekly unemployment benefits, as well as a one-time stimulus payment of up to $1,400 for individuals or $2,800 for married couples. The video then cuts to news coverage of the bill on MSNBC, which highlighted national polls indicating that a majority of Americans support the relief bill modeled off of President Biden ’s proposal. A Morning Consult/Politico poll conducted last week found that 76 percent of registered voters supported the stimulus package, with 52 percent saying they “strongly” supported it. 3 Years After, Parents of Nigerian Girl Abducted by Boko Haram Still Plead for Her Release
YOLA, NIGERIA - Three years ago this month, Boko Haram abducted 110 girls from a school in Dapchi, in Nigeria’s Yobe state. One girl remains in captivity. Her parents remain hopeful she will be freed but say the government is doing nothing to ensure her release. A month after the February 2018 abduction at the Government Girls' Science and Technical College, the government negotiated the release of most of the girls, except for Leah Sharibu, aged 14 at the time of her capture, and the only Christian in the group. Leah’s mother, Rebecca Sharibu, says she and her husband are still counting on the promises made by the government of President Mohammadu Buhari regarding her release. “Out of the 110 girls abducted, it is only my daughter that has not been released,” she said. “Why did [Buhari] not adopt the same means he used in gaining the release of the others to free my girl? They negotiated the release of those kidnapped in Katsina state; why wouldn't they negotiate for my daughter's release? Just one girl.” Nigeria’s schools are increasingly targeted by Boko Haram and criminal groups. Boko Haram became infamous for school kidnappings in 2014, when the group took 276 schoolgirls in the town of Chibok, in northeastern Borno state. More than 100 of the girls are still missing. “The only way they can do that is by offering money, because we can't go and storm the Sambisa forest (where Leah is suspected to be held) with a forceful rescue. So, you have to give money in return for her or give up some prisoners in return for Leah. The problem with that though, is that if Leah is released and the government paid for her release, other parents who have children who were kidnapped by Boko Haram and who are also held in the Sambisa, they would ask, what about me?” von Frederick Rawlins said. There were reports in 2019 that Leah delivered a baby boy in captivity, but her father, Nathan Sharibu, says that is not true. He is calling on Buhari to ensure Leah’s ...
Boston Bruins Player Torey Krug Hammers Robert Thomas With Massive Hit During Game One
Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug dropped the hammer Monday night in a game one Stanley Cup win over the St. Louis Blues. Krug, who had lost his helmet, jacked up Blues player Robert Thomas with an absolute monster hit. He didn’t just give him a love tap. He put the force of God into this hit, and Thomas had no shot during the 4-2 victory for the Bruins . Watch the incredible play below. That’s the definition of a monster check by NHL standards. Thomas had no chance, and it’s a great reminder of why you need to absolutely keep your head on a swivel. The NHL is a game for men, and not paying attention can result in your head getting taken off. It needs to be nothing but dudes getting obliterated at every opportunity possible. If you’re not a fan of either team playing for the Cup, then you just need to cheer for carnage. There’s no better way to embrace the chaos than with defensemen coming for people’s souls. Broncos release defensive end Jurrell Casey in cap-saving move
The Broncos’ defense continued to be re-shaped Thursday when the team released defensive end Jurrell Casey. Casey, 31, was limited to three games last year because of a Week 3 biceps tendon injury. The move creates $11,874,750 in cap space and comes two weeks after cornerback A.J. Bouye was cut to free up $13,218,750. Casey was a no-risk acquisition last March — the Broncos gave up a seventh-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for the five-time Pro Bowl selection. The Broncos declined to re-sign Derek Wolfe and Adam Gotsis, who ended up with Baltimore and Jacksonville, respectively, believing the durable Casey would be an upgrade. But after missing only four games in nine years for the Titans, Casey was injured in the loss to Tampa Bay and finished with 14 tackles (no sacks) and three pass break-ups in 156 snaps. All four of the defensive ends on the 2020 Week 1 roster missed time because of injury or illness. Casey missed 13 games, Dre’Mont Jones (knee) and DeMarcus Walker (calf) three games apiece and Shelby Harris five games (four with COVID-19 and one with a knee). Casey is gone and Harris and Walker are scheduled for free agency next month. Jones’ strong second half of 2020 (10 1/2 pass-rush “disruptions,” including four sacks) has him penciled in to be a starter this year. Even before releasing Casey, the Broncos had plenty of cap space for outside linebacker Von Miller (currently a team-high $22.125 million) and safety Justin Simmons (via long-term deal or the estimated franchise tag of around $13.7 million). General manager George Paton now has more cap flexibility to be active in free agency or allocate money toward re-signing Harris. Policies Report an Error Contact Us Submit a News Tip ...
