More Than A Dozen GOP States Sue Biden Admin Over Recent Border Policy, Claim It’s ‘Encouraging More Border Crossings’

June 2, 2023 by dailycaller.com Leave a Comment

Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and more than a dozen other GOP-led states are suing the Biden administration over a recent policy to address an expected surge of illegal migrants at the southern border, according to a statement from his office. The Biden administration rule Miyares is contesting was implemented to mitigate an expected surge of migrants at the southern border when Title 42, a Trump-era expulsion order, ended on May 11 which made migrants ineligible for asylum if they pass through another safe country before coming to the U.S. Miyares, however, argues that the rule has many exceptions that allow migrants to enter the country, including using a phone app to book entry appointments, claiming they face imminent danger in their home country and having their asylum request denied in another country, the lawsuit argues . ‘Chilling Effect’: States Are Cracking Down On Therapists Who Don’t Affirm Kids’ Trans Identities

June 5, 2023 by dailycaller.com Leave a Comment

“Conversion therapy,” a term widely understood to mean bans on clinical attempts to get patients to stop feeling same-sex attractions, has been redefined with the encouragement of transgender activists to include attempts to change a patient’s “gender identity.” Dozens of states have banned conversion therapy for minors under this new definition, leaving therapists concerned that they could be penalized if they don’t automatically affirm and encourage their underage patients’ transgender identities. “I hear from therapists all the time that simply will not work with minors, or will not work with trans-identified/ gender- dysphoric/ questioning people, for fear of the consequences. So the only people who do work with this population are those who ‘affirm’ and a rare handful of thoughtful people who proceed with great caution,” Stephanie Winn, a marriage and family therapist in Oregon who was investigated by her licensing board over a spurious accusation of “conversion … [Read more...] about ‘Chilling Effect’: States Are Cracking Down On Therapists Who Don’t Affirm Kids’ Trans Identities

When the National Bird Is a Burden

T he bald eagle, a bird that lives only in North America, is sometimes mistaken for an idea. Take the Great Seal of the United States: The eagle clutches an olive branch in one claw, a set of 13 arrows in the other. His wings stretch out tall and wide from behind a shield, and his fulsome beak holds a ribbon inscribed with Latin: “ E pluribus unum .” That is a collage of symbols about peace and war and history and unity, not a bird. A real bald eagle is made of flesh and feathers and talons — a thing of nature, not a pastiche of concepts. Noble virtues do not map neatly onto apex predators, a fact that troubled Benjamin Franklin as early as 1784. In a letter to his daughter, he wrote: “I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen as the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly.” But the first time Will Harris saw a bald eagle on his farm, six years ago, Franklin’s lesson was one he had not yet learned. Harris, the owner … [Read more...] about When the National Bird Is a Burden

China Freezes Credentials for Journalists at U.S. Outlets, Hinting at Expulsions

September 6, 2020 by www.nytimes.com Leave a Comment

WASHINGTON — The Chinese government has stopped renewing press credentials for foreign journalists working for American news organizations in China and has implied it will proceed with expulsions if the Trump administration takes further action against Chinese media employees in the United States, according to six journalists and U.S. officials with knowledge of the events and statements on Monday by a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman. The actions and threats raise the stakes in the continuing cycles of retribution between Washington and Beijing over news media organizations. Those rounds of retaliation are a prominent element of a much broader downward spiral in U.S.-China relations , one that involves mutually hostile policies and actions over trade, technology, education , diplomatic missions , Taiwan and military presence in Asia. American news organizations immediately affected by China’s latest actions are CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News and Getty … [Read more...] about China Freezes Credentials for Journalists at U.S. Outlets, Hinting at Expulsions

0 Restaurants & Bars The proposal will complement further development in that area, including more housing and the expansion of a medical facility nearby. Michael Lemanski , Patch Staff Posted Reply WEST HARTFORD, CT — Caffeine addicts earlier this month received a nice morale boost when the West Hartford Plan & Zoning Commission gave the final approval for a new Starbucks coffee shop in town. After weeks of several land-use steps regarding the project at 433 S. Main St., West Hartford, the PZC Dec. 5 voted 5-0 to approve the special use permit for the operation, which is being called a "new restaurant drive-through facility." The initial application was in September. The action, which did come with some conditions, means the developers of the site, Corporate Center West Associates LLC, now have all the town approvals necessary to build and brew at the location. The conditions attacked to the PZC's approval … [Read more...] about West Hartford Starbucks Plan Gets Final PZC Approval
