Wednesday March 13, 2019 06:15 AM Prepaid car maintenance plans promise convenience and a locked-in price but how can you tell if you're getting a good deal? Written by By RONALD MONTOYA, Edmunds Prepaid car maintenance plans are one of the most common items a dealership finance and insurance manager will offer you when you buy a new car. The sales pitch promises the advantage of "locking in" maintenance prices at today's rates for a little extra amount added to your monthly payment. Then, whenever you need scheduled maintenance, just roll in, get the service done, and roll out without ever opening your wallet. The pitch sounds tempting. But what exactly do these plans cover? And are they a smart use of your money? IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF PLAN There are two types of prepaid maintenance: one offered by the automaker (or a company it has approved) and another from the dealership. Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine (Las Vegas Review-Journal) Federal workers affected by the government shutdown will be able to defer payments on their children’s Nevada Prepaid Tuition plans, the state treasurer’s office said Tuesday. The plans allow families to lock in the rates of in-state college tuition and pay current prices for a future college education. “Nevada families who are investing in their children’s future shouldn’t have to have to put their child’s dreams on hold because of the gridlock in Washington, D.C.,” Treasurer Zach Conine said in a statement. “The treasurer’s office will ensure that no participant in the Nevada Prepaid Tuition program is negatively impacted by the shutdown.” The office will work with families on flexible payment options for their tuition plans, it said. MetroPCS, T-Mobile’s prepaid phone brand, is remaking its image in an attempt to appeal to more people. The cellular service, which is changing its name to Metro by T-Mobile, runs on the same network as T-Mobile, said Tom Keys, president of the brand. It has for quite awhile, he noted, but said the company hasn’t historically done a good job of communicating that. T-Mobile has bolstered its own reputation in recent years, both by offering cost-cutting deals to customers and by improving its network technology. “We want to highlight how good a network it is, and we haven’t done the best job of that since the merger,” Keys said. Prepaid phone plans allow people to get cell service without signing contracts and without having to … [Read more...] about T-Mobile rebrands prepaid line to emphasize network coverage
