Christmas has come early for fans of “The Princess Diaries,” as a third installment of the franchise is in development. Aadrita Mukerji is writing up the third script of the iconic film franchise that launched Anne Hathaway’s career into the stratosphere, according to a Hollywood Reporter report published Tuesday. Thankfully, this won’t be a reboot or redesign of the original story, as sources have said the script follows on from the original series of films. The original film was based on a novel by Meg Cabot and earned $165.3 million globally in 2001, THR continued. The second installment of the franchise was released in 2004, bringing in $134.7 million, suggesting that it’s a big money-maker for the entertainment industry. It is one of the few reboots I certainly want to see as soon as humanly possible. There is no explicit deal for Hathaway to reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis, the film’s leading character whose life is turned upside down when she discovers she’s the heir … [Read more...] about REPORT: Iconic Disney Movie ‘The Princess Diaries’ To Get Another Sequel
Par for the course with disney movies
Disney has two movies in theaters right now starring queer characters—but you’d be hard-pressed to name both of them. In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever , Michaela Coel plays a warrior with a female partner, a relationship given the most cursory of nods toward the end of the movie when the pair calls each other “love.” That feint toward sexual diversity is par for the course with Disney movies these days: sprinkle a little queerness in there for the folks at home, but not too much, so that it can be easily excised for the overseas release. (Either way, bigots are unhappy.) Very much not par for the course, though, is the other Disney movie with a queer hero playing this weekend. Strange World boasts not only a queer teen lead, voiced by IRL queer comedy icon Jaboukie Young-White , but that queer teen is also biracial. Between the explicit queerness and the interracial family at its center, Strange World is shockingly progressive—well, as far as Hollywood family films go. … [Read more...] about ‘Strange World’ Is Disney’s First Animated Movie With a Gay Lead. Click here to read the full article. Hollywood has come to expect a few things around Thanksgiving: a hearty turkey dinner, plenty of family time… and a Disney movie to rule the box office. In keeping with tradition, the Magic Kingdom is poised to stuff the competition over the busy holiday weekend as “ Strange World ,” an animated adventure about a family of legendary explorers, opens in theaters. But it’s a leftover, Disney’s “ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ,” that’s expected to claim the No. 1 spot in North America. The superhero sequel looks to extend its reign as it aims to collect at least $40 million between Wednesday and Sunday. The Disney board booted the pro-groomer CEO Bob Chapek and replaced him with the pro-groomer CEO Bob Iger. By the next day, much of the bloom was already off the stock price . “ Disney stock faded more than 1% on the second day of Bob Iger ‘s return engagement as CEO,” reports the far-left Deadline , “reflecting investors’ divergent outlooks on the media giant’s prospects.” More : Shares in the Dow component finished at $96.21, down 1.4% on more than twice the normal trading volume. The downbeat session made Disney one of the few laggards in the media sector during an overall up day for the broader market. Iger’s stunning return to the company he led as CEO from 2005 and 2020, replacing Bob Chapek after an up-and-down two-and-a-half years has heartened many employees at the company as well as investors. The stock jumped 6% on Monday, though it gave back some of its gains over the course of the trading day. Let’s get real, y’all… Before Disney outed itself as … [Read more...] about Nolte: Disney Stock Drops on Day 2 of Groomer-enabler Bob Iger’s Return
The Walt Disney Co. looks like it has another woke box office bomb on its hands. Strange World , the environmentally themed animated adventure featuring the studio’s first openly gay teen character in a cartoon feature, grossed a mere $800,000 in previews on Tuesday, signaling weak moviegoer interest headed into the lucrative Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The movie was expected to gross $30 million to $40 million during the five-day weekend. But the dismal preview figure means Strange World will have trouble reaching that goal, with some reports estimating an opening weekend as low as $23 million. Since the movie cost a reported $180 million to make, Disney will have a tough time recouping its costs during its theatrical run. Strange World follows the adventures of the Clade family of explorers, who set out to save their civilization’s primary source of energy — a plant called the Pando — which has become endangered. Some guy named Simu Liu, who starred in one of those crappy Marvel movies everyone’s already forgotten, took to the Twitterz Tuesday to attack legendary directors Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese as racist. Liu is “clapping back” because Scorsese and Tarantino are not Marvel movie fans. Their lack of affection for superhero movies, in general, appears to be based on three solid reasons: 1) Scorses and Tarantino are not 11 years old; 2) they believe superhero movies are not cinema but rather $250 million amusement park rides that say nothing about the human condition, and 3) superhero movies suck all the oxygen out of the theaters leaving no room for anything else. What’s so funny is that Scorsese said what he said more than three years ago , and the Marvel Babies are still butthurt over it. In July of 2019, the Oscar-winner told Empire : I don’t see [Marvel movies] I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well-made as … [Read more...] about Nolte: Disney’s ‘Shang-Chi’ Star Trashes Tarantino and Scorsese as Racists
