The water remains closed Wednesday at many Gulf Coast beaches as the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon make their way onshore. Double red flags, indicating the presence of dangerous surf and tides, are posted in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Destin, Panama City, Pensacola and South Walton. The beaches remain open at each place but the water is off limits to the public. According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, the rip current risk is expected to remain high today and tonight before dropping to moderate from Thursday to Saturday night. State of emergency Gulf Shores remains under a local State of Emergency after Tropical Storm Gordon made landfall along the Mississippi/Alabama coast last night. U.S. Within hours, Hurricane Michael is expected to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle, becoming the first Category 4 hurricane to strike the area since at least 1851. Ahead of the storm’s impact, meteorologists and computer systems forecasted where the storm would hit and where it would go after it made landfall, which were all put together in a spaghetti model. Spaghetti models are comprised of multiple forecasted track paths, which are each represented by a thin line, making them look like pieces of spaghetti. A model released on Wednesday morning from Storm Vista showed the storm hitting the Florida Pan Handle before curving to the northeast and working its way up through Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia. U.S. Hurricane Michael, the first known Category 4 hurricane to ever hit the Florida Panhandle, left a wake of destruction behind in the state. When the sun rose Thursday morning, Floridians—many without electricity—could see the damage caused by the brutal rain, wind and flooding: homes and businesses destroyed, trees toppled and streets flooded. At least two people have been reported dead. A child from Seminole County, Georgia, and a man in Greensboro, Florida, were both killed when debris fell on their homes. The storm made landfall on Wednesday afternoon, moving quickly through Florida and into southeastern Alabama and southwest Georgia around 5 p.m. EDT, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
