The Center for Fiction announced Thursday that Morrison will receive a lifetime achievement honor for "Excellence in Fiction." Winfrey, who has chosen such Morrison novels as "Song of Solomon" and "Paradise" for her book club, will introduce the author during a Dec. 11 dinner ceremony. Morrison's longtime publisher, editor-in-chief Sonny Mehta of Alfred A. Knopf, also will be honored that night. It's the Big Three's birthdays yet again and the Pearson family is all coming together under Randall's roof. It's a full house, Deja (Lyric Ross) is back with them, as is Zoe (Melanie Liburd), Beth's cousin, who is working on a documentary and staying with the family. Oprah Winfrey is bringing her wisdom to Merrimack Valley. The philanthropist, producer, and actress will participate in “A Conversation with Oprah Winfrey” at University of Massachusetts Lowell as part of the the university’s Chancellor’s Speaker Series, which “brings individuals at the top of their respective fields to speak to students and the community while raising funds for student scholarships,” according to a press release. Aiming to capitalize on the momentum from Oprah Winfrey's embrace of the company and a boom in membership, Weight Watchers said the rebranding initiative would roll out in stages. It includes: • A new logo, color palette, corporate images and slogan: "Wellness that works." • A new program launching Oct. 4 called WellnessWins to reward members for tracking their meals, physical activity, weight and workshop attendance. SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A new commemorative stamp from the U.S. Postal Service honors first responders across the country, including firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel who assisted during a wildfire and a deadly mudslide in the Montecito, California, area. KSBY-TV reports that media giant and Montecito resident Oprah Winfrey gave local first responders a personal thanks during a Friday stamp ceremony. The stamp depicts a firefighter, paramedic and police officer in red, white and blue. Winfrey described the first responders who worked during the Thomas Fire and the Jan. 9 mudslide as brave and undaunted. Teen Lauren Cantin, who was rescued from mud by first responders, sang "God Bless America" at the ceremony.
