Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court said Thursday that gun cases involving restrictions in Hawaii, California, New Jersey and Maryland deserve a new look following its major decision in a gun case last week. In light of last week's ruling — which said that Americans have a right to carry a gun outside the home — lower courts should take another look at several cases that had been awaiting action by the high court, the court said. Those cases include ones about high-capacity magazines, an assault weapons ban and a state law that limits who can carry a gun outside the home. The justices, in a 6-3 decision, last week struck down a New York law that required people to show “proper cause,” a specific need to carry a gun, if they wanted to carry a gun in public. Half a dozen states have similar laws that were called into question by the ruling. In the New York case, the court's … [Read more...] about Supreme Court says several gun cases deserve a new look

California’s New Late Start Law Aims To Make School Less Of A Yawn
FREMONT (AP) – When Hansika Daggolu’s junior year of high school starts in the fall, she’ll be watching to see if a later first bell under a new California law means fewer classmates are heads-down on their desks for afternoon naps. The overall mood, she suspects, will lift as well if her classmates at Mission San Jose High School in Fremont aren’t quite so sleepy. 0 Politics & Government "We must confront Islamophobia or any form of racism" wherever it is found, said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, "even in these very halls." Daily Montanan , News Partner Posted Reply Daily Montanan December 26, 2021 The U.S. House following a vitriolic debate passed a bill along party lines Tuesday night to create a State Department office that would counter Islamophobia worldwide. Democrats said a conflict much closer to home showed the need to confront anti-Muslim bigotry. The bill sponsored by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, picked up momentum after Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert suggested Omar, who is Muslim, was a terrorist. Democrats, including Colorado’s Ed Perlmutter and Joe Neguse, criticized Boebert in declaring their support for the measure. The vote, on likely the last day the House is in session this year, appears to be the only action the chamber will take for now related … [Read more...] about U.S. House Passed A Bill Along Party Lines To Create A State Department Office That Would Counter Islamophobia Worldwide
