Snow Falls On 31 Of Last 72 Days In Denver Totaling Nearly 5 Feet

DENVER (CBS4) – After a relatively dry fall and winter, Mother Nature turned things around for Denver and Colorado’s Front Range during early February and hasn’t looked back. Denver International Airport has measured 57.5 inches of snow since Feb. 12. Prior to February, the city measured 20.1 inches of snow which puts the season-to-date total for Denver International Airport at 77.6 inches after Monday’s snowfall . (source: CBS) The city has reported a trace or more of snow on 31 of the last 72 days which is nearly 50% of the time. More snow is possible in the city on Wednesday before a weekend warming trend. The wet weather pattern is rather unusual for a La Niña weather pattern but it’s more than appreciated when it comes to drought. There has been a significant improvement across eastern Colorado over the past few weeks. Bicycles sit covered in snow on March 14 in Denver. The following two maps show the improvement of drought in the eastern half of Colorado since the first of the year. Denver Weather: Latest Storm Caused Icy Roads And Near Record Lows Tuesday Morning

DENVER (CBS4) – Tuesday morning was the coldest morning in at least a month in the Denver metro area. The frigid start came after most areas along Colorado’s Front Range received 2 to 7 inches of snow. A resident in eastern Boulder County shovels his sidewalk on Tuesday morning. (credit: CBS) The relatively light and fluffy snow that started to fall in the Denver metro area Monday afternoon was able to quickly stick to roads and sidewalks thanks to the unusually cold air associated with the storm. The storm originated in northern Canada which is rare for storms so late in the season. Typically spring snow storms arrive from the West Coast and have relatively warm air which results in heavy, wet snows that has more difficulty sticking to roads. About 5 inches of snow fell at CBS4 in downtown Denver from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning (source: CBS) Tuesday morning also started with a temperature about 20 degrees colder than normal and close to the record. Denver’s record low for April 20 is 13 degrees from 1966. The official low temperature Tuesday morning was 15 degrees. (source: CBS) In terms of snow totals, the highest amounts were along the Peak-to-Peak Highway corridor and into the Rocky Mountain National Park region. Jamestown which is 10 miles northwest of Boulder and nearby Allenspark both reported over 15 inches of snow. Boulder itself also did quite well with 9 inches. (source: CBS) Most other areas on the Front Range had 2-5 inches of snow including Denver which officially received 3.1 inches. RELATED: Snow Falls On 31 Of Last 72 Days In Denver Totaling Nearly 5 Feet | Boulder County Gets More Than A Foot, Tops Colorado Snow Totals List That brings the snow total for April up to 10 inches and the total for the season up to 77.6 inches is more than 2 feet above normal. (source: CBS) Looking ahead, despite ample sunshine on Tuesday, temperatures will remain more than 20 degrees below ...

Denver weather: Up to 7 inches of snow, near-record cold expected to hit city

April 19 has been an active weather day in Denver history, snowing more than a foot on the date five times . This year could also make history as the city could set a new record low while snow pounds the city. Denver on Monday will touch 45 degrees under mostly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service. Precipitation should begin to fall in the afternoon, strengthening after 3 p.m. There’s a 90% chance of precipitation with 25 mph wind gusts and a possibility of a half-inch of snow accumulation. After dark, snow will fall and be heavy at times. There could be gusts around 20 mph with up to seven inches of snow downtown and a near-record low of 16 degrees. The record is 13 degrees. “A quick-moving upper trough will push two cold fronts into the area today,” wrote Lisa Kriederman, a meteorologist with NWS. “The first one will bring low clouds and patchy drizzle this morning to the plains. The second one this afternoon will spread snow, heavy at times, along the eastern slopes of the Front Range mountains and foothills and into the western urban corridor this evening as temperatures rapidly fall.” Heavy snow and gusty winds are expected to make driving conditions difficult beginning around 3 p.m. this afternoon in the northern mountains and I-25 corridor north of Fort Collins, according to Kriederman. By 5 p.m., those difficult driving conditions are expected to spread south down the Front Range to the Palmer Divide. “Eight to 14 inches of snow is expected in the higher mountains north of I-70, with 4 to 8 inches along the urban corridor and 1 to 4 inches across the Eastern Plains,” Kreiderman wrote. “Areas west of the Divide will see less as well in this mostly upslope storm, with totals closer to 1 to 5 inches.” Denver is likely to see 3 to 7 inches, according to the weather service. ⚠️Winter Weather Advisory⚠️ Travel conditions deteriorate Monday afternoon and early eve as heavier snow develops. Travel may become difficult for ...
