Want to start an argument? Just bring up pizza: how it’s made, what fits the definition, which style is supreme. All are up for debate. So it came as no surprise that Julia Moskin’s article this week about the state of frozen pizza , and an accompanying taste test of upmarket frozen pies , garnered hundreds of comments from New York Times readers. “Pizza,” as Amy in Connecticut said , “is a big tent.” Some wished we had reviewed their favorite supermarket brands, like DiGiorno , Stouffer’s and Screamin’ Sicilian , while others rallied around local favorites like Lou Malnati’s , Butch’s and Home Run Inn . But many just wanted to share their pizza wizardry, how they gussy up a frozen pie or make a quick one from scratch. Here are some of our readers’ favorite ways to ’za . In a Minneapolis Suburb, French Cuisine, Tradition and Charm
Gavin Kaysen, previously the chef de cuisine at Café Boulud in New York City, where he earned the James Beard Rising Star Chef Award and a Michelin star, returned to his Minnesota hometown in 2014 to open Minneapolis’ revered Spoon and Stable . This March, he added to his portfolio by opening Bellecour in the Minneapolis suburb of Wayzata; since then, it has become a destination for foodies and Francophiles across the Twin Cities and beyond. He named the bistro after a historic town square in Lyon, France, hometown to Daniel Boulud and Paul Bocuse, both mentors to Mr. Kaysen. (“My time with Daniel was my Ph.D. in this business,” he said.) Indeed, Bellecour pays homage to friends and family who were instrumental in Mr. Kaysen’s success. Tributes are sprinkled throughout the restaurant: French fry cones are emblazoned with quotes from Mr. Bocuse; the signature house coffee blend is named after Mr. Kaysen’s grandmother, Dorothy; a framed photo of her handwritten recipes adorns a … [Read more...] about In a Minneapolis Suburb, French Cuisine, Tradition and Charm
A Return to Nordic Roots
MINNEAPOLIS THERE’S no escaping Scandinavian heritage in the Twin Cities. At every turn, there’s a billboard for Norwegian language-immersion camp or a “Drool if You’re Finnish” baby bib for sale. Several upscale places, like Tilia, Heartland … [Read more...] about A Return to Nordic Roots

close Video Pentagon says Chinese surveillance balloon over US does not pose direct threat The Pentagon recommends the president not to shoot down the balloon as Secretary of State Antony Blinken postpones his first trip to Beijing since COVID, reports Fox News’ Greg Palkot. EXCLUSIVE: House China Select Committee Chairman Mike Gallagher told Fox News Digital that the Chinese spy balloon flying over the continental United States is "not just an isolated incident," but an intentional violation and threat to American sovereignty. "The important thing that the American people need to understand, and what we are going to try to expose in a bipartisan fashion on this committee, is that the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is not just a distant threat in East Asia, or a threat to Taiwan," Gallagher told Fox News Digital on Friday.
