Politics & Government Mayoral candidate says small businesses are struggling as they rebound from the pandemic Scott Benjamin , Community Contributor Posted | Updated Reply By Scott Benjamin STAMFORD – Bobby Valentine says that Connecticut's third largest city has "a lot of rental properties but we don't have a lot of ownership properties" and if he's elected mayor he will try to provide incentives that would allow more people to both work and live here. "It seems like we have a real gap between those who rent and those who own," declared Valentine, who is running as an unaffiliated candidate. "Most of the owners have properties that are a quarter of a million dollars up. The rental at $3,000 a month to the $750,000 home is not the perfect scenario." Mortgage rates bounce back on strong employment and inflation data
After a brief dip below 5% for the first time in four months, the 30-year fixed rate shot above that level this week. According to the latest data released Thursday by Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed-rate average jumped to 5.22% with an average 0.7 point. (A point is a fee paid to a lender equal to 1% of the loan amount. It is in addition to the interest rate.) It was 4.99% a week ago and 2.87% a year ago. Freddie Mac, the federally chartered mortgage investor, aggregates rates from about 80 lenders across the country to come up with weekly national averages. Because of the criteria, these rates are not available to every borrower. The 15-year fixed-rate average climbed to 4.59% with an average 0.7 point. It was 4.26% a week ago and 2.15% a year ago. The five-year adjustable-rate average rose to … [Read more...] about Mortgage rates bounce back on strong employment and inflation data
Zero House Republicans to Vote for ‘Inflation Reduction’ Act
House Republicans are planning to whip the vote against the “Inflation Reduction” Act with zero GOP defections — to force the Democrats to “own” the massive spending bill. Republicans are working to make sure all of their members are in Washington, DC to cast their vote on the bill in person, and intend to pressure Democrats to do the same — to go on record with their position in person, a senior House Republican staffer told Breitbart News. “We’re going to make sure that we have everybody in town voting, so that if these Democrats want to vote to raise taxes, during a recession, they’ll have to go on record to do it,” the staffer told Breitbart. The GOP is also looking to highlight the more egregious items in the massive spending bill, using it as a cudgel against Democrats. “I think the big fight is just going to be making them own the bill. I think this bill is going to be their own worst enemy. When you look at doubling the size of the IRS, tripling the size of the EPA, … [Read more...] about Zero House Republicans to Vote for ‘Inflation Reduction’ Act
