LOUIS (AP) — The Latest on a winter storm sweeping across parts of the Midwest this weekend (all times local):12:35 p.m.Authorities in Kansas and Missouri have reported at least five killed in crashes as a winter storm sweeps across the Midwest.The storm moved into Kansas and Nebraska from the Rockies on Friday, then east into Missouri and Illinois. Snow is covering roads and making driving dangerous. Up to 11 inches (28 centimeters) of snow was reported in St. Louis.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that among those killed in crashes were a woman and her 14-year-old stepdaughter whose car slid into the path of a semitrailer on Friday in Clinton, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) southeast of Kansas City. (Reuters) - A blizzard that has already canceled or delayed thousands of airline flights and injured a passenger and crew member on a commercial jet over the Dallas area could dump nearly a foot more snow in some states, forecasters said on Thursday. (Reuters) - A U.S. storm system that by Thursday morning had already caused flight disruptions and blizzard-like conditions was expected to dump up to 10 inches (25 cm) of snow on some states and heavy rainfall on others, weather officials said. Parts of the U.S. Midwest and Southeast were experiencing the first wave of heavy snow and rain expected to strike the central United States through the holiday weekend. Midwest Winter Storm Path Update: Snow, Blizzard Conditions Expected as Storm Progresses
U.S. A storm promising to deliver more than a foot of snow to some areas of the Great Plains and the northern Midwest was bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds as of Thursday. Parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and Kansas were getting a slew of weather warnings, watches and advisories. The system causing the stormy and wintery conditions was named winter storm Eboni by the Weather Channel and was making its way east. The National Weather Service (NWS) does not name winter storms. The section of the storm that was prompting a blizzard warning covered the eastern half of each of the Dakotas as of Thursday morning, as well as parts of Kansas and Nebraska. Midwest Winter Storm Forecast, Path: North Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota Bracing for Storm, Post-Holiday Travel Hindered
U.S. A winter storm moving across the Midwest and the Plains Tuesday was causing travel delays and hazards across multiple states, including North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Kansas and Nebraska. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories were in effect for much of the area as of Wednesday. The post-Christmas storm was snarling travel following the holiday and over a foot of snow was expected in some areas. In North Dakota, much of the state was under a winter storm warning. The northeastern portion of the state near Minnesota was all under the storm warning while a part of the western portion was under a winter weather advisory along with northeastern Montana. Many of the warnings were in effect through Friday morning in the Midwest.
