Thursday, during an appearance on FNC’s “Fox News Primetime,” former Bush deputy chief of staff Karl Rove discussed the political future for former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), who has over the last few years mounted unsuccessful bids for U.S. Senate and the Democratic presidential nomination. Rove pointed to Texas Democrats’ struggles in recent election cycles, which have occurred as O’Rourke has taken a prominent role in the Texas Democratic Party. “He’s been planning to run for governor for the last year,” Rove said. “And he was the captain in charge of the Democratic voter registration and get out the vote effort. They’ve issued an autopsy report this week saying, we don’t know how or why, but we lost the voter registration battle to the Republicans who out registered us by at least 88,000, and we lost the get out the vote effort.” “They expected that they would win the Senate race, that they might carry the state for Biden, that they pick up at least three and perhaps as many as seven Republican congressional seats,” he continued. “They got zero. They expected to take the Texas State House of Representatives they made absolutely no gains. They lost the Senate race by double digits. The president won with a comfortable reelection.” “That has been the handy work of Robert Francis O’Rourke, so how do they reward that?” Rove added. “They say let’s run him for governor. God. The Texas Democrats they can’t get their act together. I’m looking forward to seeing Robert Francis O’Rourke on the campaign trail because he’s already been out there for about a year and a half since he lost his dismal race for the presidency. You know, nothing succeeds like failure for him.” Follow Jeff Poor on Twitter @jeff_poor ...

Biogen Conference Linked To 20,000 Massachusetts Coronavirus Cases, Researchers Estimate
BOSTON (CBS) – A new study shows just how far-reaching the coronavirus outbreak at the Biogen conference in Boston last February spread throughout the world. “I do think it speaks to the power of that virus to move from one person to another, to another, to another,” said Governor Charlie Baker. The Broad Institute study shows about 20,000 COVID-19 cases can be traced to the conference that took place at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf. It shows the virus moved very quickly from Boston to Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Michigan, and even Australia. It somehow spread from the conference to Boston’s homeless community, and contributed to case-loads in hot-spots like Everett, Revere, and Chelsea. “In this particular event is was sort of like a perfect storm for a virus like this to spread that quickly,” said Tufts Medical Center Infectious Disease physician, Dr. Gabriela Andujar Vasquez. She said the study offers insight for schools and colleges planning on reopening. “Maybe with more people in the indoor setting, if masks and hygiene and social distancing happen in that setting, then we mitigate that risk.” Biogen employees helped researchers with the study. In a statement, Biogen executives said, “February 2020 was nearly a half year ago, and was a period when general knowledge about the coronavirus was limited…We never would have knowingly put anyone at risk.” ...

Large Outdoor Gathering Prompts Clampdown On Tents In Downtown Davis
DAVIS (CBS13) — Davis is making changes after a massive party last weekend under a tent set up by the city itself. Davis officials had organized the tents and tables to help local restaurants, which were restricted to takeout only, attract people to the city’s downtown core amid the coronavirus pandemic. READ MORE: Victimized Again: Looters Rummage Through Victims' Burned Homes However, over the weekend, a large gathering took place in one of the downtown tents. “It looks like it was all college students,” said Kimo Bernauer from A Grand Affair Rental, who owns the tents. In video taken by bystanders, dozens of people could be seen packed into a tent. It’s unclear if it was a planned event. “I came back in the morning [and] tables were flipped over,” Bernauer said. “Garbage [was] everywhere.” The city says they met with the Davis Downtown Business Association this week in response to the event. A series of changes have now been agreed upon to try and prevent such large gatherings from taking place again. READ MORE: Man Killed In West Sacramento Police Shooting “After we saw the video … we needed to make a change down here,” said Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel. Pytel says the larger tents were not assigned to businesses on that block. “With this tent, it wasn’t assigned to a certain business and so it became a free for all – which is what we saw this last weekend,” he said. Smaller tents will still be allowed and assigned to specific businesses in conjunction with beefed-up police patrols at night, effective immediately. “The City is trying to help downtown businesses during the pandemic by allowing the flexible use of outdoor space, but public health has to come first” said Vice Mayor Lucas Frerichs in a statement. The large tent along G Street, between Second and Third streets, is being removed. Further, the city decided that there will be no general open container zone along G Street. Here's what you need to know as you start your day ... Trump in 2024? 'Absolutely,' Mitch McConnell says Mitch McConnell , R-Ky., said Thursday he would "absolutely" support Donald Trump if the former president were to win the Republican nomination in 2024. However, McConnell told "Special Report " host Bret Baier that "there's a lot to happen between now and '24. I've got at least four members, I think, that are planning on running for president, plus governors and others. There is no incumbent, [so it] should be a wide-open race and fun for you all to cover." Video McConnell was lambasted by the former president recently after the senator condemned Trump’s behavior during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. When asked by Baier to respond to Trump’s allegation that the Republican Party could never be respected if leaders such as McConnell remained in charge, he replied, "The Republican Party is actually in very good shape. "We gained seats in the House. We elected 50 Republican senators when everybody was predicting we were going to lose the Senate. The Democrats didn’t flip a single state legislature. We flipped two [and] picked up a governor. "The Republican Party had a very good day on November 3," McConnell continued. "We’re sorry we lost the White House, but the Republican Party demonstrated once again [that] this is a 50/50 nation, we are very competitive and will be competitive again in '22."
