Scarborough Says Sen. Lindsey Graham ‘Was Right’ About Trump
MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough said Friday that South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham “was right” about former President Donald Trump’s dominance in the party. Scarborough quoted Graham’s 2016 claim that “if the Republican Party nominates Donald Trump, they will destroy themselves and they will deserve it.” The “Morning Joe” host agreed with Graham’s position that Trump has a stranglehold on the party and cannot be defeated by a large pool of potential candidates. “Lindsey Graham was right then, Lindsey Graham is right now,” Scarborough said. Graham ran for president in 2016 but suspended his campaign after failing to gather significant support. On Tuesday, he endorsed Trump’s 2024 campaign during an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity.” “I don’t right now see anybody in the field that can beat Donald Trump one on one if Donald Trump decides to run. [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis certainly can’t do that if a Florida high school association is going around following his lead … [Read more...] about Scarborough Says Sen. Pompeo and Haley Are Running. What on Earth Are They Thinking?
What makes Mike Pompeo run? Photo: Stephanie Keith/Getty Images In every presidential primary that isn’t already locked down by an incumbent, there are candidates whose presence causes experts to scratch their heads. I’m not talking about totally obscure shouters and wavers “running for president” to impress their neighbors or beef up their résumé for a school-board race. No, the true, non-risible long shot is an ostensibly serious person who may well be qualified for the job but has about as much chance of getting it as I have of winning a billion-dollar Powerball drawing. The 2024 Republican presidential contest will likely include two heavyweights, Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis . But there are several would-be candidates mulling a race who could be called long shots. A good example is Mike Pompeo . Pompeo is a West Point grad who had a successful business career before getting himself elected to Congress four times, then serving as CIA director and secretary of State … [Read more...] about Pompeo and Haley Are Running. Christie Faces Scandal on Traffic Jam Aides Ordered
The mystery of who closed two lanes onto the George Washington Bridge — turning the borough of Fort Lee, N.J., into a parking lot for four days in September — exploded into a full-bore political scandal for Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday. Emails and texts revealed that a top aide had ordered the closings to punish the town’s mayor after he did not endorse the governor for re-election. “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee,” Bridget Anne Kelly, a deputy chief of staff to Mr. Christie, emailed David Wildstein , a high school friend of the governor who worked at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the bridge. Later text messages mocked concerns that school buses filled with students were stuck in gridlock: “They are the children of Buono voters,” Mr. Wildstein wrote, referring to Mr. Christie’s opponent Barbara Buono. The emails are striking in their political maneuvering, showing Christie aides gleeful about some of the chaos that resulted.
