A charming, historic house with a rock 'n' roll pedigree has hit the market for $22.5 million in Santa Monica, CA . Known as the Witbeck House, the delightful domicile dates back to 1917. That's when businessman Charles Witbeck decided to commission a two-story, shingle house that looked more at home on the East Coast than in California. Arts and Crafts architects Greene and Greene took on the task, creating three structures on the property: a main house, two-bedroom guesthouse, and two-story A-frame. Brothers Charles and Henry Greene were known for creating “ultimate bungalows,” including several landmark houses and buildings in Southern California—but no others in Santa Monica. 'Somebody's Baby' Over the years, the the Witbeck House has had several different owners, including musician Jackson Browne and actress Darryl Hannah . In fact, that A-frame structure was once a music studio for Browne. The chart-topping artist is known for such hits as "Stay," … [Read more...] about Stay for Good? Bones Under Parking Lot Belonged to Richard III
LEICESTER, England — Until it was discovered beneath a city parking lot last fall, the skeleton had lain unmarked, and unmourned, for more than 500 years. Friars fearful of the men who slew him in battle buried the man in haste, naked and anonymous, without a winding sheet, rings or personal adornments of any kind, in a space so cramped his cloven skull was jammed upright and askew against the head of his shallow grave. On Monday, confirming what many historians and archaeologists had suspected, a team of experts at the University of Leicester concluded on the basis of DNA and other evidence that the skeletal remains were those of King Richard III, for centuries the most reviled of English monarchs. But the conclusion, said to have been reached “beyond any reasonable doubt,” promised to achieve much more than an end to the oblivion that has been Richard’s fate since his death on Aug. 22, 1485, at the Battle of Bosworth Field, 20 miles from this ancient city in the sheep country of … [Read more...] about Bones Under Parking Lot Belonged to Richard III

This tiny San Mateo County community — with an average home value of almost $7.5 million and average household income exceeding half a million dollars — has California’s highest percentage of electric cars, according to a CalMatters analysis of data from the … [Read more...] about Who Buys Electric Cars In California — And Who Doesn’t?
