Doomsday Dad Chad Daybell Believed He Was a Seer Who Could See ‘Beyond the Veil’
In December 2019, police in Rexburg, Idaho alerted the media: Two children had gone missing, along with their mother, Lori Vallow, and her new husband, Chad Daybell. No one had any idea where they were. Quickly, speculation swirled—that maybe their disappearances, and their whereabouts, could be linked to the “cult-like” religious beliefs held by Vallow and Daybell. Both were avowed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Daybell had found a small amount of celebrity within Mormon circles for authoring LDS fiction and running his own book publishing company. But both Vallow and Daybell also entertained ideas at the fringes of the Mormon faith—ideas that weren’t acceptable to talk about in church on Sundays. They held study groups and scrutinized the works of “near-death experience” authors who claimed to have died and come back to life with knowledge from “beyond the veil.” Much has been discussed about : the gorgeous mother and former beauty queen … [Read more...] about Doomsday Dad Chad Daybell Believed He Was a Seer Who Could See ‘Beyond the Veil’

There Is No Escape From ‘Barbiecore’ This Summer
In July 2023, Barbie , the next film from Academy Award-nominated director Greta Gerwig, is scheduled to hit theaters. A year out from its release date, the movie, which stars Margot Robbie as the iconic plastic doll and Ryan Gosling as her loyal paramour Ken, is already generating reams of online buzz due to paparazzi shots of its costumed stars on the job. You’d have to be living under a rock to avoid the pictures: Robbie and Gosling in pink, fringed cowboy attire, complete with drawstring bell-bottoms and pure white Stetsons . Robbie sporting extra-long blond extensions. Gosling looking like country-and-western Elvis . The getups, which are rumored to have been designed by past Gerwig collaborator Jacqueline Durran, are unhinged, and nobody seems to be able to shut up about Barbie’s hysterical-neon ensembles. In one shot, Robbie and Gosling can be seen clad in homages to 1995’s Hot Skatin’ Barbie: hot-pink biker shorts, fluorescent patterned vests, and … [Read more...] about There Is No Escape From ‘Barbiecore’ This Summer

Mike Lupica: In the end, thin-skinned Kevin Durant wasn’t built for Brooklyn
The NBA has become a league dominated by headlines about whining, entitled stars acting like complete losers, even if they’ve won championships the way Kevin Durant has. The biggest headlines this week are about Durant, of course, who’s decided he’s unhappy with his current circumstances, and wants to go sit at another table where he thinks the cool kids are. And then there Kyrie Irving who, if there is any justice, will still be in Brooklyn now that Durant seeks the same greener pastures for which Irving keeps searching, even as he has now opted back into his own deal with the Nets. Send up a flare when Irving, who sabotaged any chance the Nets had to be anything last season because of his refusal to get vaccinated, wins another title. Why did he refuse? Because Irving thinks he knows more than the doctors, something that is no real surprise, since he thinks he knows more than everybody about pretty much everything. It is hard to think of the last player in the pros to have less … [Read more...] about Mike Lupica: In the end, thin-skinned Kevin Durant wasn’t built for Brooklyn
