World Series 2018: Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Sandy Koufax, Jackie Robinson and the Boys of Summer. Ted Williams to Yaz and the Impossible Dream. Manny Ramirez. Pedro Martinez. Bill Buckner. Fenway Franks and Dodger Dogs. Ebbets Field, the Green Monster. "Sweet Caroline'' or "I Love L.A.'' Yet for all their rich history — dating back to Babe Ruth on the mound — the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers have rarely crossed paths heading into this World Series. Only once before in October, and that was more than a century ago. Game 1 of the World Series is Tuesday night. The Red Sox will play either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Milwaukee Brewers. (Published Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018) In fact, Clayton Kershaw has never even pitched at Fenway Park. Consider this: Going into Game 1 on Tuesday night, the Dodgers have beaten the Red Sox in Boston just one time. That came on June 12, 2004. And guess who scored and drove in a run for the Dodgers during that 14-5 romp? Drenching Hawaii, Hurricane Lane is downgraded to Category 3 storm
HONOLULU (Reuters) - Hurricane Lane was downgraded to a Category 3 storm as it lashed Hawaii on Thursday with high winds and torrential rains, touching off flash floods, landslides and raging surf as residents hunkered down to ride out the storm. With Lane still churning in the Pacific Ocean about 140 miles (225 km) southeast of Kailua-Kona, more than a foot (30 cm) of rain had already fallen on the eastern side of the Big Island of Hawaii, said Kelly Wooten, a spokeswoman for the Hawaii County Civil Defense agency. There were no immediate reports of injuries, but at least 14 roads had been closed because of flash floods and landslides in the Pacific island state, she said. Tourists were advised to stay away from a popular attraction on the island of Maui called the Seven Sacred Pools, a scenic cluster of waterfalls and grottos. Moving northwest at 6 miles per hour (10 kph), the tempest was downgraded on Thursday afternoon Hawaii time to a Category 3 storm on the five-step … [Read more...] about Drenching Hawaii, Hurricane Lane is downgraded to Category 3 storm

A Few Storms Possible Monday In Southern Minnesota
Severe Storms Across Southern Minnesota Early Sunday Morning A few strong to severe storms rolled across parts of southern Minnesota early Sunday morning. There were a couple of strong wind reports with these storms west of Mankato - a 63 mph wind gusts near Slayton, and a 53 mph wind gust near Jeffers. _______________________________________________ Meteorologists Aren't Immune From Weather Problems Some days I'm afraid to come out of my storm bunker. "Dad, for a weatherman you have rotten luck" our Navy son, Brett, told me yesterday. He's right. Friday's grill-pummeling wind was a reminder that meteorologists are hardly immune to weather-related damage. We've had our pontoon ripped off the lift during a severe gale. Straight-line winds downed massive tree limbs in our front yard. And 10 years ago our boat sank after 60 mph winds pushed 5-foot waves ashore, overwhelming the bilge pump. "Dad, I'm in the Navy. Please don't share that story" Brett muttered. Oops. With Doppler I can see … [Read more...] about A Few Storms Possible Monday In Southern Minnesota
