$1.6M Texas Hotel Is Looking for a Buyer To Check In
Checking in! With 12 bedrooms, 10 with en suite bathrooms, the historic Farris Hotel , aka Hotel Dallas, could be just about anything. The building, just off Main Street in Eagle Lake, TX , has come on the market with a list price of $1,650,000. “It was built in 1912 and, throughout its life, it has been a hotel at least twice and then a restaurant. And the individual who owns it now is using it as a single-family residence,” says Tim Grimes of Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty, who is co-listing the property with Brian Spack . “There are so many possibilities somebody could do with this. If somebody has an imagination and is creative, it could be something really special,” Grimes adds. Built for rail travelers Published reports say a hotel building has been on the site since the Good Hotel was built for rail travelers in 1858. At one point, Bill and Helyn Farris restored and operated the hotel for 20 years. Bill died in 2012, and records show the … [Read more...] about $1.6M Texas Hotel Is Looking for a Buyer To Check In
Chinese Spy Balloon Renews GOP Push for Foreign Land Purchase Ban
The news of a Chinese spy balloon floating through American airspace has bolstered Republican calls to focus on national security — including from Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), who is proposing a foreign land purchase moratorium to protect U.S. food security and stabilize housing prices. Congresswoman Miller is set to reintroduce a bill on Monday entitled the ‘‘Saving American Farms from Adversaries Act.” The legislation would give the president power to prohibit the purchase of public or private real estate in the United States “by any foreign person,” including corporations and partnerships, for the five-year period after the enactment of the law. Breitbart News learned exclusively of the bill’s introduction on Friday, and was first to report the bill last year when Miller introduced it with now-retired Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX). “Our adversaries continue to rob our country of wealth and prosperity under Joe Biden’s weak leadership. Congress must respond to the critical … [Read more...] about Chinese Spy Balloon Renews GOP Push for Foreign Land Purchase Ban
Rep. Massie, Antitrust Subcommittee Chair: No Monopoly Is Safe
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Wednesday that he plans to take a comprehensive look at monopolies across all industries as the House Judiciary antitrust subcommittee chair. Last House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced that Massie would serve as the Subcommittee chair on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust. Massie told Breitbart News that he plans to investigate nearly all industries for potential solutions to anticompetitive and monopolistic behavior. He explained, “I contend that no monopoly can survive in a free market. Most monopolies require the government to survive, and when the federal government gives handouts and carveouts and overregulates competition and indemnifies the incumbents, those are recipes for monopoly creation and growth. And we do way too much of that. So, without spilling the beans, I intend to cover a lot of areas with this committee. There’s almost no industry … [Read more...] about Rep. The Mysterious Man Who Built (and Then Lost) Little Tokyo
When word got out last month that Angel’s Share might close after nearly 30 years, the city — or at least a very vocal slice that was devoted to artisanal cocktails — spun into a paroxysm of despair. Social media was flooded with remembrances of the speakeasy, a softly lit cove of urbanity and elegance hidden in two rooms on the second story of an East Village building. “This hurts more than any other NYC closing I’ve heard in the past 10 years,” ran a typical tweet . Food-obsessed websites bemoaned the news . In all of these lamentations, there was almost no mention of Tony Yoshida, the owner of Angel’s Share. Despite its outsize importance as a trailblazer in the craft cocktail movement, few, in this age of celebrity restaurateurs and bar owners, seemed to know who was behind the place; or that he was the same person who owned a string of Japanese-oriented businesses on the short, angled section of Stuyvesant Street — including the Sunrise Mart grocery, Panya Bakery and … [Read more...] about The Mysterious Man Who Built (and Then Lost) Little Tokyo
