The flag of the United States of America… Generally summed up the US flag is a direct representation of the very meaning of , “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” But why did it take over a century later for all Americans to be able to share in on the same meanings and liberty that these representations reflect? In 1776, during the days of June 11 through June 28, Thomas Jefferson penned what has become known to the world as the, Declaration of Independence. U.S. Authorities have charged an Uber driver with kidnapping a passenger after she fell asleep, according to The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Harbir Parmar, 24, allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his female passenger. The rider was picked up in Manhattan on February 21. She asked Parmar to drive her to White Plains, where she lived, according to authorities. During the ride, the passenger fell asleep. Parmar changed her destination to an address in Boston and began driving toward Massachusetts. When the rider awoke, the driver had parked the vehicle on the side of the road. Parmar was sitting in the backseat. His hand was under her shirt, touching the top of her breast. The passenger asked to go to her original destination or a police station. When Marianne LaPlante walked into the Aldi supermarket on Route 9 in Howell last Friday, she was excited to use her $5 off, grand opening coupon and see what the new grocery store had to offer. The last thing she expected was to be leaving the store in an ambulance after being resuscitated by a complete stranger. "We had just started to shop," LaPlante told NJ Advance Media. "I just knew I didn't feel right and grabbed the cart." LaPlante, who was shopping with her 91-year-old mother, attempted to put her head down but ended up falling to the ground and hitting her head on the grocery store floor. "We heard a loud crash and someone yell 'Oh my God, help me,' and me and my daughter ran down the aisle and saw Marianne convulsing on the floor," said Lisa Manoy, another shopper in the store at the time. Long Island City would be an ideal place for a life-sciences hub, but it hasn't attracted a critical mass of private companies because of a lack of government subsidies and other obstacles, according to a new study by a local business group.The Long Island City Partnership's report made the case that the area's transit connections, discounted office space and favorable zoning and development sites are the perfect combination for the city's life-sciences sector, which is burgeoning in Manhattan but not in the other boroughs.The field encompasses an array of disciplines, including pharmaceuticals and bioengineering. I don’t know about you, but as soon as I read Ann M. Martin’s The Doll People, I knew that my childhood toys came to life. Sometime in the dead of night, or while I was away from my bedroom, they’d all come out to play and have conversations about the weather or, maybe, political views (dolls are people too, you know).
