Senate Republicans are threatening they will attempt a takeover of the Senate agenda by forcing votes on issues ranging from the Keystone XL pipeline to abortion rules to a U.S-Mexico border wall if Democrats weaken the filibuster. Republicans are also looking at smaller bills such as a proposal to prohibit the administration from imposing a fracking ban by executive order, a prohibition on the IRS implementing new reporting on banks to disclose individuals’ banking activity and mandatory detention for illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes. Senate Republican leaders on Monday said they have a list of bills they will try to bring to the floor under Rule 14 and debate if Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer Chuck Schumer Clyburn on updating election law: 'What is true today was not true then' Biden eulogizes Reid as a fighter 'for the America we all love' Like it or not, all roads forward for Democrats go through Joe Manchin MORE (D-N.Y.) rounds up … [Read more...] about Republicans threaten floor takeover if Democrats weaken filibuster
As we embark on a new year, I want to begin with some salient data points: America’s GDP is at a record high of $23 trillion. The S&P 500 is at near-record levels at close to 4,700, an all-time high. Housing prices are at record highs, along with retail sales. American household net worth is at a new high of $150 trillion. New business formations are at near-record levels at 440,000. There are 10.4 million job openings, and 4.4 million people are confident about quitting and finding a new job (U.S. nonfarm quits). Hourly wages are up 4.8%, especially for the lowest income brackets. Borrowing rates are at near-record lows (10-Year Treasury Bond) at 1.58%. In the past 30 years, a 30-year mortgage has gone from 9.90% to 3.10%. And yet, consumer sentiment has fallen from 100 in 2019 to 66.8. People are not happy with the current state of the economy. Why has confidence fallen by nearly 30% in two years? COVID fears continue to be an issue for businesses and … [Read more...] about Improving Investor Behavior: Show me where it hurts
WASHINGTON — As the new year opens, President Biden faces an increasingly narrow path to fulfill his ambitious goal of slashing the greenhouse gases generated by the United States that are helping to warm the planet to dangerous levels. His Build Back Better Act, which contains $555 billion in proposed climate action, is in limbo on Capitol Hill. The Supreme Court is set to hear a pivotal case in February that could significantly restrict his authority to regulate the carbon dioxide that spews from power plants and is driving climate change. And the midterm elections loom in November, threatening his party’s control of Congress. Since Republicans have shown little appetite for climate action, a Republican takeover of one or both chambers could freeze movement for years. The mounting challenges make the next few months critical to secure the safety of the planet as well as Mr. Biden’s climate legacy, analysts said. “If they can’t pull this off, then we failed; the country has … [Read more...] about Biden ‘Over-Promised and Under-Delivered’ on Climate. 6 WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden faces a steep path to achieve his ambitious goal of slashing planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, amid legislative gridlock that has stalled a $2 trillion package of social and environmental initiatives. Biden’s Build Back Better plan, which contains $550 billion in spending and tax credits aimed at promoting clean energy, was sidetracked by Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who said just before Christmas that he could not support the legislation as written. Democrats insist they are moving forward on the sweeping package, which also would bolster family services, health care and other programs. Manchin signaled in recent days that climate-related provisions were unlikely to be a deal-breaker, but the bill has taken a back seat to voting rights legislation and other Democratic priorities. Even without the legislation, Biden can pursue his climate agenda … [Read more...] about As spending bill stalls, Biden climate goals remain elusive
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM/CNN) – Americans across the country have been paying higher prices at the pump. And if the Omicron variant doesn’t result in another round of widespread lockdowns or crackdowns on social gatherings, some experts say Americans can expect to see gas prices nearing $4 a gallon in dozens of states this year. To be sure, the crude oil prices that provide much of the raw cost for gasoline trended higher for virtually all of 2021. In October, Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil, hit a high of $85.76 per barrel and the US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) reached $85.64 per barrel. READ MORE: Former Ku Klux Klan Hall In Fort Worth Being Turned Into 'Arts And Community Healing' Space Wholesale gasoline usually trades some $10 to $20 per barrel higher than crude oil. That difference could soar to $40 to $50 per barrel or more this year if Omicron wanes and gasoline demand moves even higher. Many have blamed President Biden for the higher energy … [Read more...] about Some Experts Warning US Drivers To Get Ready For $4 Gasoline
House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy told Breitbart News that Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration enjoys high gas prices because the Democrats are using that crisis to try to force Americans to accept their radical Green New Deal agenda. “If you listen to the White House, they say having a high price of gasoline is good, right?” McCarthy said. “Their whole plan is all about the Green New Deal, right? There is a bridge before you ever move from a combustion engine or others. If you have an electric car, you have to charge it. You have to have electricity for it. If you want to buy an electric car, they’re about $50,000.” Chevron Gas prices over the $5 mark are displayed in Visalia, California, November 16, 2021.
