New York (CNN Business) Jeff Bezos — the billionaire founder of Amazon and rocket company Blue Origin — made a grand public announcement a year ago that he purchased a ship to capture Blue Origin rockets after they return from space, and he named the vessel after his mother. But now the company says it is doing away with that plan, seeking a more "cost effective" alternative, Blue Origin spokesperson Linda Mills said. It is not clear what will happen to the Jacklyn, as the ship is called, which Bezos dedicated to his mother in a small ceremony in Pensacola, Florida in December 2020. Blue Origin could still use the ship for another purpose or abandon the project altogether. Mills said the company is "still assessing options." One alternative to the big ship is to opt for an autonomous, seafaring platform or barge, much like the droneships that SpaceX uses to catch its rockets after flight. 19 children, 2 adults killed in Texas in the deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook
UVALDE, Texas — A gunman walked into a school here Tuesday and killed at least 21 people, including 19 children, in another mass shooting in an America that daily buries victims of gun violence amid divisive political debates over 2nd Amendment rights and the gaze of disbelief from the outside world. Greg Abbott said. A Border Patrol agent who works as part of a tactical team near the school, which is about 50 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, fired the shots that killed the gunman, according to a law enforcement source. In Uvalde, a community of deep Latino roots is further bound by grief
UVALDE, Texas — Torres. Garcia. Lopez. Garza. Flores. Ramirez. Rodriguez. Mireles. Rubio. Cazares. Salazar. Bravo. Mata. Luevano. Uvalde is a quiet, predominantly Hispanic city with deep Mexican American roots in an area known for agriculture, forestry and open land. On Thursday, a profound sense of mourning sunk in as an all-black front page graced the local newspaper , the Uvalde Leader-News. The cover did not mention the victims' names, just "May 24, 2022” in white letters over black ink, marking the shooting that killed at least 19 children and 2 teachers at Robb Elementary School. The date will forever be a demarcation line for the town of approximately 16,000 people, where everybody essentially knows one another and many are extended family. “I can’t remember anything this big, this awful,” Adrian Alonzo, a relative of Eliahna “Ellie” Garcia , one of the children killed, said as family and friends gathered at the home of Eliahna's grandparents. The town’s … [Read more...] about In Uvalde, a community of deep Latino roots is further bound by grief
