As I said a heartfelt goodbye to my 2014 Subaru Impreza Sport 5-Door last September, there was something I wondered as I walked off the used car lot: where are all the station wagons? As it turns out, in the year 2023, there aren’t that many station wagons on the road, period. “The standard data provider for new vehicle sales doesn’t even break down wagons anymore,” says Kevin Roberts, director of industry insights and analytics at CarGurus. “Most of the time, they’ll probably end up classified as a crossover or a hatchback.” Some data aggregators have “station wagon” as a trim or body variant, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find any meaningful separation of the category. It speaks to the bigger problem of coming up with an exact definition for the term “station wagon” — a term that hasn’t kept up with the times. CHECK CAR PRICES: Station wagons, in the most traditional sense, are clearly in decline. American auto tastes have shifted, but many of the features that … [Read more...] about Where Have All the Station Wagons Gone?

Sen. Raphael Warnock Lands a New Home in DC for $1.1M
After a tightly contested Senate race, Raphael Warnock prevailed. His next stop? A new home in Washington, DC , for which he laid out $1,149,000. Warnock made history in 2020 when he became the first Black senator from Georgia, doing so in a special election that went to a runoff. He repeated the feat in 2022, beating Herschel Walker in another runoff and securing a full six-year term in Congress. His new capital digs are modest by some standards but beautifully renovated. The 1,780-square-foot townhome includes four bedrooms and 3.5 baths, arranged across about 1,780 square feet. The new owner will approach the home on freshly planted sod and grass, and then enter a luxe great room with an open floor plan. Kitchen, dining, and living spaces are combined and flow nicely to the end of the unit, where a deck and a pretty view await. At more than a century old, the row house features both charm and fresh updates. There are new stainless-steel appliances, a wine fridge, … [Read more...] about Sen. Nearly 400 Migrants Land in Britain as Rwanda Scheme Is Delayed Again
Nearly 400 illegal migrants crossed the English Channel in small boats from the beaches of France on Wednesday, marking the second highest daily total so far this year as the government has admitted that it’s chief deterrence policy will likely be delayed until later this year. According to the data published by the Ministry of Defence, there had been 592 illegal migrants brought ashore at Dover this year so far. But that number jumped considerably again this week with smugglers taking advantage of calm weather in the morning on Wednesday. Eight smugglers’ boats carried another 373 migrants across the cold and dangerous waterway on Wednesday morning. A further 31 migrants were brought back to France after their boat required rescuing, according to French authorities. The pace is roughly on par with that of last year, when a record 45,728 crossed the English Channel, however, depending on weather conditions, January could once again see a record number make the illegal … [Read more...] about Nearly 400 Migrants Land in Britain as Rwanda Scheme Is Delayed Again

Randall Park’s directorial debut is an ode to flawed Asian Americans
PARK CITY, Utah - There is something incredibly fun about a movie tribute to slacker Asian Americans screening at the Sundance Film Festival on Tuesday morning, just after a handful of non-slacker AAPI actors and directors were cleaning up with Oscar nominations. Randall Park couldn't have predicted the timing, but his directorial debut, "Shortcomings," based on the 2007 graphic novel about Asian Americans millennials by Adrian Tomine (who also wrote the screenplay), was screening in Utah just hours after four AAPI actors got nominations - more than have ever been recognized in a single year - and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" broke records with 11 chances to win Academy Awards. Park's film opens with a spoof of "Crazy Rich Asians" that his protagonist, Ben (Justin H. Min of "The Umbrella Academy"), an art-house snob who dropped out of film school and manages an independent movie theater, calls a "garish mainstream rom-com that glorifies a capitalistic fantasy." His politically … [Read more...] about Randall Park’s directorial debut is an ode to flawed Asian Americans

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 11 ALGECIRAS, Spain (AP) — Spanish police on Thursday raided the home of a Moroccan man arrested the previous night after allegedly killing a man with a machete and severely injuring a priest in attacks on two Catholic churches in the southern city of Algeciras. Police are still investigating the motive of the assault, but a National Court judge is investigating it as a possible act of terrorism. The suspect is believed to have acted alone. Officers searched the as-yet unnamed suspect's home to “determine the nature, terrorist or otherwise,” of the alleged crime, Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said. The suspect is a Moroccan citizen with no prior criminal record “either in Spain or any other country,” the interior ministry said. Grande-Marlaska added that investigators do not think anyone else was involved. The … [Read more...] about Spain: Police raid home of suspect in church machete attacks
