New York Magazine admitted this week that mass immigration to the United States is, in fact, “bad for housing prices” for Americans looking for affordable single-family homes. The admission from the left-wing publication comes as years of research has shown that the nation’s admission of more than a million legal immigrants annually, in addition to millions of illegal aliens, helps send housing prices surging for working- and middle-class Americans. “Yet one key sector in which immigrants drive higher demand is housing. People need homes,” New York Magazine writer Eric Levitz admitted . Rather than decreasing overall immigration levels, as most Americans want, Levitz argues that despite mass immigration being “bad for housing prices,” the U.S. ought to make mass immigration “work” by enriching real estate developers with a dismantling of local zoning laws and rapid construction of multi-family complexes in single-family neighborhoods. Donald Trump’s 2020 Campaign Unveils Immigration, Labor Promises
President Donald Trump’s second-term agenda on migration and work is short and lacks details, but it is far better than the expansive and detailed cheap-labor promises from Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden. If reelected, Trump will “Prohibit American Companies from Replacing United States Citizens with Lower-Cost Foreign Workers,” says the short plan. “It is short and a lot less than we would live to see, but compared to the Democrat’ plan, it is great,” said Rosemary Jenks, policy director at NumbersUSA. “This is clearly a campaign document, said Jenks. It shows “they are targeting issues based on the demographics they are trying to reach.” “They could have done more, so it is disappointing,” said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies. But the campaign document shows that Trump and his deputies know that opposition to cheap-labor migration is a vote-winner, said Vaughan. “It is an acknowledgment that this a major problem — … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s 2020 Campaign Unveils Immigration, Labor Promises
Daily Caller Co-Founder Neil Patel Predicts Amazon, Walmart Could Support Minimum Wage To Price Out Competition
Daily Caller co-founder Neil Patel predicted that Amazon and Walmart could support an increase in the federal minimum wage in order to price out their smaller competitors during a Sunday appearance on Fox News’ “The Next Revolution.” While discussing the minimum wage and how it’s implemented across the U.S., Patel explained to host Steve Hilton that he understands the argument to apply a livable wage to large companies like Amazon and Walmart that make billions in profit, but added that it “makes a lot less sense for small businesses.” (RELATED: ‘They Can Afford It’: Daily Caller Co-Founder Neil Patel Suggests Large Corporations Should Bear The Brunt Of A Minimum Wage Increase) WATCH: “Small business has been devastated through this pandemic, and the youth case is just different. If you have a deli down the street from you and the owner wants to take a few hours off in the afternoon and have a high school kid come in, then that’s a really different case than … [Read more...] about Daily Caller Co-Founder Neil Patel Predicts Amazon, Walmart Could Support Minimum Wage To Price Out Competition
Marco Rubio: Joe Biden’s Open Borders Damages Other Nations
President Joe Biden’s open borders policy is wrecking poor countries by extracting their young people and enriching their criminals, says GOP Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla). “For all the Biden administration’s talk of wanting to help stabilize poorer nations so their citizens don’t want to leave, the administration’s policies are doing just the opposite,” Rubio said in a May 25 op-ed . He continued: Luring [migrant] people away from their homes with political promises and fueling cartel industries are making things worse in Mexico, Guatemala and beyond. And yes, it is making things worse in the U.S. as well. What kind of world do we want to leave to our children? One with an increasingly large and increasingly desperate pool of would-be migrants? Or one in which people do not feel the need to flee their communities for a better life elsewhere? The latter sounds a lot better than the former to me. But we will not reach it unless we secure the border. Biden’s migration policies are … [Read more...] about Marco Rubio: Joe Biden’s Open Borders Damages Other Nations
This Is The Only 2016 Candidate Committed To Reducing Legal Immigration
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum is the only 2016 candidate from either party expressly committed to reducing legal immigration, on top of securing the border and dealing with illegal immigrants already in the country. “It’s about time someone doesn’t just bow to corporate America on the Republican side, or just play the ethnic politics that the left now plays,” Santorum said Thursday on the Laura Ingraham Show. Santorum proposes to slow the rate of legal immigration by reducing the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country every year from about one million to 750,000. He believes high levels of legal and illegal immigration in recent decades have suppressed the wages of American workers, hitting middle and lower income families particularly hard. “Everyone can say they’re against amnesty, but what else are you for and what else are you against?” Santorum spokesman Matt Beynon told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “These are serious questions.” Since 1970, … [Read more...] about This Is The Only 2016 Candidate Committed To Reducing Legal Immigration
Cruz Stands By 2013 Immigration Push, Drawing Contrast With Walker
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is standing by a push he made to increase legal immigration in 2013, highlighting an apparent divide between Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and the rest of the GOP presidential field on immigration. Walker, a likely contender with Cruz for the 2016 GOP nomination, ignited a media frenzy last week when he said legal immigration policy should revolve around the needs of American workers. (RELATED: WSJ Editorial Board Takes A Sloppy Shot At Walker) “In terms of legal immigration … it is a fundamentally lost issue by many in elected positions today, is what is this doing for American workers looking for jobs, what is this doing to wages,” Walker said in an interview with Glenn Beck, reported by Breitbart News . Since 1970, the foreign-born population of the U.S. has more than tripled to 41 million, according to data compiled by the Congressional Research Service for the Senate Judiciary Committee.
