(CBS DETROIT) – Testing done by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) over the weekend did not detect the presence of hexavalent chromium in the Huron River following the release of the chemical in the water system last week. On Saturday, Aug. 6, EGLE crews tested water from 55 different locations. Over the weekend of July 30, chemicals were released into the Huron River water system from Tribar Manufacturing in Wixom. The chemical that was released is hexavalent chromium, a carcinogen that can cause negative effects to people through ingestion, skin contact, or inhalation. The Princess and the Poconos
A hundred-mile drive from New York City, on the fringe of the Pocono Mountains, Tamiment was for much of the last midcentury a resort for singles and a summer intensive for emerging theatrical talent. During the first half of each season, writers assembled an original musical revue every week; in the second half, if they were interested in cranking out a show with a story — and if Moe Hack, the barky, crusty, cigar-smoking sweetheart who ran the place, thought it was a good idea — they would be free to try. Among those who tried in the summer of 1958 was Mary Rodgers, a young composer whose father’s reputation preceded her; he was, after all, Richard Rodgers. Also at Tamiment was the lyricist and book writer Marshall Barer , her mentor and tormentor. Together, with assists from Dean Fuller and Jay Thompson, they would write the musical “Once Upon a Mattress,” a perennial favorite that grew from a summertime opportunity into an Off Broadway and Broadway success starring Carol … [Read more...] about The Princess and the Poconos
Hyde10: 10 Dolphins camp thoughts — Depth chart is telling; Patriots offense struggling; Did Robert Kraft push for tampering penalty?
Here are 10 observations from the first two weeks of Miami Dolphins training camp: 1. The linebackers were the most interesting unit of the first Dolphins’ depth chart . Melvin Ingram is listed as an outside starter over Andrew Van Ginkel. That’s not a big deal as both will play. The point here is they like Ingram this much, though the larger point is to ask if the Ingram of August will be the same as the Ingram of December and January. He’s 33 with a history of injuries. He had stops at two blue-chip franchises, Pittsburgh and Kansas City, the last two seasons and didn’t stick. But if the Dolphins get anything close to the Melvin Ingram of the Chargers then they have found someone valuable. We’re still in the message-sending part of an NFL, so we don’t know if the Dolphins’ message is they like Ingram this much or want to push Van Ginkel. Maybe both? 2. A couple of items regarding the Dolphins’ tampering penalties for recruiting Tom Brady back to his New England days and Sean … [Read more...] about Hyde10: 10 Dolphins camp thoughts — Depth chart is telling; Patriots offense struggling; Did Robert Kraft push for tampering penalty?
